Dawa mountain

Noah's Ark

A naturalist in West China is written by Wilson, a famous British explorer and botanist. In the 19 years from 1899 to 1918, Wilson came to China five times. In 1903, Wilson set out from Chengdu, traveled through Leshan and Emeishan, then went up Dadu River and came to Jinkou River. After a four-day trek. He ascended Dawa mountain on July 1. On June 30, 1930, Ernest Henry Wilson, a British botanist and explorer, set out from Jiading (today's Leshan) and arrived at Datianchi at the foot of Dawa mountain after six days of arduous trek. He should have taken the yangshanjiang road between Xiyi road and Nanyi Road on the South Silk Road. Because of the dangerous terrain, this ancient road did not directly pass through the Jinkouhe Grand Canyon, but turned from Wuchi village to suoyiling on the north side of Dawa mountain. Geology and geomorphology

On the plane of Dawa mountain, there is an isosceles triangle with the bottom facing west and the top angle facing east. The three sides facing northeast, Southeast and due west are about 1750 meters, 2000 meters and 3000 meters long respectively. All three sides are cliffs. In the area of Wuchi village, you can see the cliffs in the northeast with an elevation difference of about 1400 meters. From Baixiong gully and dingmugou gully on the left bank of Jinkou gorge of Dadu River, you can reach the foot of the cliffs in the West and southeast of Dawa mountain. The height of the cliffs is about 1600 meters.

The peak of Datianchi in dawashan is not always composed of "Carboniferous slate". The mountain is divided into two layers, the lower part is limestone, and the upper part is volcanic rock called "Emeishan basalt". On the cliff, the two colors are distinct, the limestone is light gray, the volcanic rock is dark brown, and the "Emeishan basalt" constitutes the most wonderful part of dawashan cliff. Its layered structure is the reflection of the layers of volcanic lava flow and ash accumulated when ancient volcanoes erupted again and again.

Surrounded by the cliffs of Dawa mountain, it seems that there is no road, but just at the intersection of the cliffs in the northeast and west of Dawa mountain, a ridge with a gentle slope is formed, which becomes the only way up the mountain. Moreover, between the limestone and volcanic rocks of the ridge, a platform with a width of about 700 meters is also formed, called wasanping, which is about 2500 meters above sea level. It is a natural midway station for mountaineering.

Five Tianchi

At the foot of Dawa mountain, there are five natural alpine glacial lakes, which are Datianchi, ganchi, Yuchi, gaoliangchi and Xiaotianchi. Among them, the largest lake is Datianchi, with an altitude of about 1850 meters, which is the lowest of the five Tianchi lakes in wasan. According to local villagers, the water in Datianchi is not overflowing all the year round, and there are no floating objects in the water. At a glance, the water of the Tianchi Lake in Washan looks black and unclean, but if it is scooped up and put in a bowl, it is very clear. The villagers in Wuchi village don't know why. Geological experts have visited the five Tianchi and inferred that these Tianchi were probably formed after the great earthquake.

In fact, except for the big Tianchi Lake, the rest of the Tianchi Lake can only be regarded as seasonal lakes. Except in midsummer, most of the seasons are marshes and wetlands. For example, gaoliangchi is usually not a lake, and the wetland is covered with all kinds of wild flowers, especially a kind of primrose with pink back, which is unique to the Dadu River Grand Canyon. Local people commonly call it "zhuanzhuanhua". In early summer, the valley is full of red!

Tianchi, called ganchi, is not dry. The lakeside is covered with green wild flowers and grass. The active marsh mud beside the lake is fluffy and dark. It is said that it is rich in various trace elements and is a good beauty product.

Mount Dawa

It's hard to climb Dawa mountain, even harder to meet the ideal weather.

Above washanping, the so-called road is often a wooden ladder built along the stone crevice on the cliff. After climbing from washanping to Lianhua cliff, there is a long and narrow ridge called gunlonggang. It is about 300 meters away from the top of Dawa mountain, and this is the most shocking place for people to feel on the way. The width of gunlonggang is only a few meters, and the narrowest part is only about one meter. On both sides are bottomless abysses. In front of them are the Dawa peak and its cliffs in the West and North. The section above gunlonggang relies entirely on the wooden ladder in the stone crevice to climb. Because the stone crevice is too narrow, one section can only pull a few iron wires tied there. After passing the highest and longest wooden ladder, the rest of the road becomes easier.

Dawa peak is a flat and slightly undulating plateau, covering an area of about 1.6 square kilometers. Wilson once wrote: "this place is decorated by Rhododendron bushes in high mountains, and there are still fir and its saplings, and autumn peony and cherry grass grow in the open space. Near the peak

At the top of Dawa mountain, you will find that Wawu mountain, about 32 km in the northwest, Emei Mountain, about 35 km in the northeast, and Dawa mountain form a magic triangle.

These three mountains can be called sister mountains in one continuous line. On the top of them, there are steep cliffs of nearly 1000 meters and gentle mountain top. They are all covered by Emeishan basalt with a thickness of hundreds of meters. Under the basaltic rocks, there are "Permian Yangxin limestone" with a thickness of hundreds of meters. The difference is that the great cliff of Emei Mountain only develops in the east side of the mountain, and its top presents an obvious west inclined slope.

Dawa mountain and Wawu mountain are flat topped mountains surrounded by precipices, which are like the roof of Wawu from a distance. However, the peak area of Wawu mountain is nearly 12 square kilometers, much larger than Dawa mountain. It looks like a continuous city wall, not as steep as Dawa mountain. Dawa mountain is convenient to look around and overlooks the Grand Canyon of Dadu River.

Dawa mountain is located in Jinkouhe District, on the east side of Hengduan, 258km away from Chengdu, 3.5 hours by car. It is the core landscape of Dadu River Canyon National Geopark.
