Its original construction date is unknown. According to the existing inscriptions and historical records, it was repaired in the 28th year of Daoguang and the first year of Tongzhi. In the eighth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, around the eight villages, five grade gongshengqu swimming master was promoted as the president of the society. He proposed to raise huge funds and build many buildings. The scale of the temple was unprecedented.
War Stories
Since then, after wars, social ups and downs, monks were expelled, no abbot. Later, during the cultural revolution, the temple was in disrepair for a long time, and there was only one old believer to guard it.
In 1993, in order to implement the religious policy, meet the needs of local believers, and exploit tangwangshan silica placer resources, with the approval of Anshan religious Office (now the Religious Bureau), Dabei temple was relocated to the middle of a mountain depression (Cigou) in caojiabao village, Maoqi Town, Haicheng City for reconstruction.
Current site scale
In 1994, Haicheng municipal government approved the land for the construction of the temple. Through the efforts of monks and believers for several years, the scale of the temple has begun to take shape.
When the site was rebuilt in 1993, all the material and cultural monuments, such as the stone tablet of the ancient temple, the brick, tile and wood of the hall, and the name of Dabei temple, were moved to the current site of caojiabao village.
The abbot of Dabei temple is master Miaoxiang. In 1995, master Miaoxiang returned to Liaoning Province from the foot of Wutai Mountain in Shanxi Province, then closed for three years in Maopeng, Benxi. In 2000, at the invitation of the local government and believers, he led the monks to live in Dabei temple.
At present, there are 120 monks (in 2016), and more than 100 monks and permanent guardians. Another is Daoyuan temple, located in Jiewen Town, Haicheng City. There are more than 200 nuns and more than 80 Faxin residents. The monks of Dabei Temple follow the will of Buddha and take precepts as their teachers. The way of practice and daily rules are formulated in accordance with the precepts of the Buddhist system
1、 Don't catch money. (Buddhist monks are not allowed to reserve and use money. All monks do not save money, do not accept money support, temples do not set up merit boxes, forbid to put money, completely put an end to the hidden danger of monks touching money, and do things with peace of mind.)
2、 There's one food in the day. (monks only eat one meal a day, and no longer eat in the afternoon, including tea, drinks, fruits, etc., except medicine. The same is true for those who are willing to become monks or guardians. No other people eat the same food during fasting.)
3、 Peddling, begging. (Xingjiao means xingtoutuo. He is far away from the countryside, walking around the world, indifferent to life, and free from emotion. Bhikkhu prayed for wisdom in Buddhism, and begged for food in order to support his life. Every autumn, the monks have to take a routine visit to the Er Shi tou Tuo, which is in accordance with the regulations in the Buddhist Net Bodhisattva Precepts. They go out to travel, change the Scriptures, and educate the people according to their fate.)
4、 No reception. (the permanent monks do not accept the gifts from the outside monks. If they have any support, they must give it to the permanent monks. The deacon of the guest hall should pay back to the guest monks and treat them equally.)
5、 All support goes to permanent residence. (all the support received by the monks is handed over to the permanent residents, who will distribute it according to their needs.)
6、 Three clothes and bowls are not separated from the body. (monks can't leave their bodies without their three clothes. Their three clothes must be of bad color. Eighteen kinds of objects are required to be carried by monks when they walk in Toutuo according to the Buddhist Net Bodhisattva Precepts.)
7、 No fate, no request. (all those who ask for something are bitter. Only when they have nothing to ask for can they gradually die out. Only by strictly following the principle of practice, and not turning to the outside world, not seeking others, and not climbing the heart, can the heart die and the Tao live.)
8、 According to religion. (according to Buddha's teaching, let go of self-knowledge, get rid of separation and persistence, and practice in harmony.)
The above is not only the ancient system of Buddha, but also the rules of ancestors. It is the basic requirement for practicing and living together in Dabei temple, and it is the practice principle that every monk abides by all his life. No matter inside or outside the temple, it should be carried out for life in all kinds of environments.
Temple affairs management
In accordance with the national religious laws and regulations, the traditional rules of the jungle, and the national measures for the administration of Chinese Buddhist temples, Dabei temple has formulated and improved various regulations for the guest hall, the Zen hall, and the storeroom, etc., in combination with the characteristics of the temple's practice. The abbot monks set up four headmen and eight deacons in accordance with the system of appointment in the jungle. The organization is sound and each has his own responsibility. According to the standardized and institutionalized management, the monks can do the Taoism with ease and make the ashram live in peace for a long time.
The principle that men and women don't live together is adopted in the Taoist school. Buddhist monasteries, which practice in accordance with the monks' group, abide by the eight respects law and come to ask for advice every half month. The end of the house, please see and hear, doubt three things from wanton.
Dabei temple has no family opinion on the equal promotion of Zen, Jing, MI, LV and Jiao. On the basis of abiding by the Buddhist precepts, the monks practice in harmony. Monks rest for four hours every day, get up at two in the morning and rest at ten in the evening. In the temple, there is a Zen hall with a bell board hanging on it. The monks sit five incense sticks a day for about an hour each time (the monks who chant Buddhism spend the rest of their time chanting Buddhism in the Buddhist hall except the first incense. The monks recite the Shurangama mantra ten times a day and recite the precepts according to the law every half month. Monks are not allowed to go out at will on weekdays. They are at ease in the temple. They have classes in the morning and evening, meditate, recite Buddhism, listen to Dharma, learn precepts, recite mantras, and go out of the slope. According to the Buddhist system, people should wear gray colored clothes, but not gorgeous and colorful clothes.
From April 16 to July 15 every year, the monks of Dabei Temple live in peace in summer according to the Buddhist system. Jiexia peaceful residence is an important practice of Buddhist monks in a year. It is one of the basic contents of practicing according to the Buddhist law system, and it is a kind of additional practice of refined cultivation. During the period of living in peace, the monks gathered in one place to make their deeds clear and do their way well. They were not allowed to go out without important affairs.
Buddhist activities
During the period of living in peace, the monks mainly studied the commandments. On July 15, they were free from Xia. On the day of self indulgence, monks check with each other whether there is a crime within 90 days. If there is a crime, repentance will be made, making the monks clean and the Buddhas happy.
The monks of Dabei Temple usually play three Sevens every year: two commandments and one chanting Buddha. Abstinence seven, that is, reciting the precepts day and night in the process of playing seven, so that people can truly correspond with the precepts, so as to achieve "the heart is the precepts, and the precepts are the heart". "Buddhist Net Bodhisattva Precepts" says: those who learn to recite the precepts, at six o'clock in the day and night (that is, 24 hours), recitation is the precepts. The first commandment of bhikkhu is to recite bhikkhu's commandments seven times, and the second commandment is to recite Bodhisattva's commandments seven times. In the seven commandments of the two commandments, Shami recites the three Sutras of Shami commandment, daily necessities of vini and Buddhist teachings. The way of chanting Buddha seven is basically the same as that of other Taoist temples.
After the 15th of August every year, the monks go out together and walk for about 15 days. Along the way, they beg for food and sleep in the open. The distance is about 600 Li. In recent years, it has passed through most areas of Liaoning Province, as well as Hebei Province, Shanxi Province, Shaanxi Province, Inner Mongolia and other places.
From 1995 to 2016, monks have been practicing for 22 years. Begging for food can break my slow, remove persistence, benefit the masses, make all living beings have pure confidence in the Dharma, and shape the image of monks in the world. The Buddha says: "the head Buddha lives, the Dharma also lives." Dabei temple only holds two Dharma meetings every year on April 8 and July 15, and teaches three conversions and five precepts. Each time, thousands of residents from all over the country attended the meeting. In the afternoon before the Dharma Assembly, the three conversions and five Commandments were announced to make the petitioners understand the significance of the conversion.
After class in the evening, we will make the participants repent all night. In the morning of the next day, activities of the Dharma Association will be held. In the afternoon, a ceremony of five commandments will be held, and the conversion certificate will be issued free of charge. During the period of the association, all the affairs are attended by the residents without any charge.
Signs such as "pay attention to all living beings at your feet" and "love all living beings" are placed in the eye-catching places inside the temple. The Zhaitang also strictly selects the food for living insects. The surface of the drum used in the Great Mercy Temple is made of synthetic material, so as to cultivate equal compassion for all living beings, without using animal skin. Food and medicine containing animal ingredients are not used in Daochang. Don't use the daily necessities with animal image, and don't eat the vegetarian food made into animal image, and take care of all living beings in details.
Dabei temple does not have tickets, does not engage in tourism, monks do not engage in confessions, all Buddhist activities do not charge, and the temple does not engage in any business activities. The Scriptures, Buddha statues and other magic weapons in the circulation department are free of charge.
