Huai'an Museum
Huai'an museum is located at 146-1 Jiankang West Road, Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province (west side of the municipal government). It is a local comprehensive history museum, the cultural relics collection, display and archaeological research center of the city, and a national second-class Museum.
Founded in March 1959, the museum features a large-scale basic exhibition of Huai'an, a famous national historical and cultural city. It consciously conveys the most influential information of Huai'an in history to the audience, so that they can have a comprehensive and clear understanding of Huai'an's position, role and development in Chinese history through the exhibition.
The first phase of the new Museum covers an area of 7 mu, with a construction area of 5000 square meters. It was completed in October 1997 and opened to the outside world. It is a modern building integrating classical charm and the flavor of the times.
As of 2018, Huai'an Museum has more than 30000 cultural relics and 140 first-class cultural relics. Among them, the collection features engraved bronzes, bronze carriage ornaments, double chimney original porcelain fumigation stove with cover and other important Warring States artifacts unearthed from Gaozhuang Warring States tomb in 1978; wood drum carvings unearthed from Yunhe village Warring States tomb in 2004; calligraphy and paintings donated by Xu Bopu in 1984; and Ming and Qing calligraphy and paintings represented by Yangzhou Eight monsters.
Huai'an museum is a national 4A scenic spot and a civilized unit of Jiangsu Province.
Historical evolution
In March 1959, the construction of Huai'an museum was completed.
In October 1997, the new Huai'an museum was built and opened to the public.
In 2004, Huai'an Municipal Party committee and government decided to carry out the reconstruction and expansion project of Huai'an Museum.

Huai'an museum was reconstructed and expanded in 2004. It covers an area of 5 mu and a building area of 7000 square meters. After reconstruction and expansion, it covers an area of 13 Mu and a total building area of 12000 square meters.
The main building of the museum is four stories high and five stories in some parts. It is inlaid with marble all around, and it goes up to the second floor with 48 steps. All exhibition halls and warehouses are equipped with modern anti-theft alarm equipment, closed-circuit television monitoring, automatic fire alarm and fire equipment. The title of the museum was inscribed by Mr. Aixinjueluo PuJie.
Huai'an museum is divided into seven exhibition units: the beginning of humanities, the charm of Chu and Han Dynasties, the key of North and south, the center of water transportation, the key of salt transportation, the key of river affairs, and the generation of heroes. There are also five different special exhibition halls: Xie Bingyan calligraphy art museum, Xie Tieli Film Art Museum, Xu Bopu donated calligraphy and painting exhibition hall, Cao Zifang donated calligraphy and painting exhibition hall, and audience interaction hall. In addition, there is a multi-function hall with advanced facilities and a temporary exhibition hall.
Conference Center
The conference center is on the first floor of the museum. Large scale central air conditioning, sound and lighting facilities are complete. Some typical stone reliefs, inscriptions and stone carvings unearthed in the city are displayed in the courtyard.
Exhibition hall
The exhibition hall is on the second floor of the museum. The exhibition hall is ready to undertake various temporary exhibitions of cultural relics, calligraphy and painting and other categories.
Cultural relics exhibition hall
The exhibition hall is located on the third floor of the museum. It is divided into two basic exhibitions: Exhibition of Huai'an historical relics and exhibition of Huai'an cultural relics. The collection consists of ceramics, jade, bronzes, coins, calligraphy and painting, with nearly 700 cultural relics on display. There are more than 130 fine cultural relics.
Located in the West exhibition hall on the third floor of Huai'an Museum, Xie Tieli Film Art Museum covers an area of 150 square meters. It is a special exhibition hall to show the artistic achievements of Xie Tieli, a famous film artist. The exhibition is divided into eight parts: "Xie Wang's family, gunsmoke literature and art, film career, academic exchanges, political participation, foreign affairs activities, friendly exchanges, and leadership care" It shows the art world of a generation of cultural celebrities from different aspects.
Xie Bingyan art museum is located in the East Exhibition Hall on the third floor of Huai'an Museum, with an exhibition area of 150 square meters. The exhibition is divided into several parts: "some relics of Xie Bingyan before his death, standing statues in scenes, calligraphy works and text pictures". It truly shows the glorious life of an old communist and calligrapher and the noble feelings of sentimental art.
Painting and calligraphy exhibition hall
The exhibition hall of calligraphy and painting is located on the fourth floor of the museum. The exhibition of calligraphy and painting donated by Mr. Xu Bopu and the exhibition of Huai'an modern calligraphy and painting collection are the basic exhibitions. "Collection of Huai'an modern calligraphy and painting works exhibition" displays the works of nearly 100 Huai'an modern calligraphers and painters.
The exhibition hall of Cao Zifang's donated calligraphy and painting is located in the West exhibition hall on the fourth floor of Huai'an Museum, with an exhibition area of 150 square meters. Mr. Cao Zifang donated 85 fine paintings and calligraphy collected in his life to Huai'an Museum for free. Among them are the works of Wei Wenbo, former Secretary of the East China Bureau and Wang Li, a famous scholar, linguist and former professor of Peking University, as well as the works of Yaming, song Wenzhi, Tang Yun, Shen Zicheng, Zhu Qizhan, Sha manweng, Xiao Xian, Wu Zhongqi, Fei Xini, Wei Tianchi, Wu Mu, Huang Yanghui and many other modern and contemporary calligraphers and painters Blank.
Xu Bopu donated calligraphy and painting exhibition hall is located in the East Exhibition Hall on the fourth floor of Huai'an Museum, with an exhibition area of 150 square meters.
Basic Display
Huaian, a famous historical and cultural city, is a characteristic exhibition of Huaian Museum. It is divided into seven units, namely, the beginning of humanities, the charm of Chu Dynasty and Han Dynasty, the key of North and south, the center of water transport, the key of salt, the key of river affairs, and the generation of heroes. It highlights the local history, has very obvious regional cultural characteristics, and is a striking card to build the cultural brand of Huaian city. Due to the large volume of the exhibition, the large-scale basic exhibition is arranged on the main level of the third and fourth floors. Among them, three units are displayed on the third floor, namely, the beginning of humanities, the charm of Chu Dynasty and Han Dynasty, and the key to the north and south. Four units are displayed on the fourth floor, namely, the water transport center, the salt transport center, the key to river affairs, and the generation of heroes.
Venue features
The new museum of Huai'an City features a large-scale basic exhibition of Huai'an, a national famous historical and cultural city. The theme of the exhibition is accurate. The exhibition focuses on highlighting the advantages of Huai'an's regional history and culture, and conveys the most influential information of Huai'an in history to the audience, so that they can understand Huai'an's position in Chinese history and its historical significance through the exhibition We should have a comprehensive and clear understanding of its role and development.
On May 25, 1984, Mr. Xu Bopu, a calligrapher and painter, donated 10 pieces of paintings and calligraphies of modern and contemporary masters to Huai'an Museum for free. All of them are original works of first-class calligraphers and painters, collecting 48 works of modern and contemporary masters, which can be said to be a miniature of modern and contemporary Chinese painting and calligraphy art. These original works have high artistic value and historical value, which greatly enrich the cultural relics collection of Huai'an Museum and are a major feature of the cultural relics collection of Huai'an City. It is rare that there are so many works of modern famous artists in domestic local (municipal) museums.

On May 25, 1984, Mr. Xu Bopu, a famous calligrapher and painter, donated 110 pieces of modern famous calligraphers and paintings to Huai'an museum free of charge, including Yu Youren's "eight pages of calligraphy", "four screens of cursive script", Zhang Daqian's "landscape axis", Xu Beihong's "horse painting", "Liu que painting" and Fu Baoshi's "landscape painting in Central Sichuan" The painting includes the painting of Buddha's longevity, the painting of wind and bamboo by Pan Tianshou, the painting of Jinling nostalgia by Lu Fengzi, the painting of ladies, the painting of seven character couplet by Hu Xiaoshi, the painting of red plum by Lin Fengmian, the painting of cattle herding by Li Keran, the painting of fisherman, etc.
