The stele of Prince Shengxian is located about 35 kilometers southeast of Luoyang City, Henan Province, on the top of Goushan mountain in today's Yanshi City. The original Shengxian temple here no longer exists. Only this monument, 6.70 meters high, 1.55 meters wide, 0.55 meters thick, and 1.3 meters high, is left. On the fourth day of February in the second year of Wuzhou Shengli (699 AD), Wu Zetian went to Songshan mountain from Luoyang to offer Zen. When she returned, she stayed at the prince Shengxian temple in Goushan mountain. She wrote inscriptions on the spot and personally wrote calligraphy. On the surface of the inscription, the story of Prince Ling of Zhou being promoted to immortal is recorded, but in fact, it praises the flourishing age of Wu Zhou. The writing style is graceful and fluent, and the mood is vertical and horizontal. The six characters of "the stele of Prince Shengxian" are written in "feibai" style, and the strokes are white, which is a rare feibai style in Tang Dynasty. There are 33 lines of inscriptions with 66 characters in each line. Running script and cursive script are alternated, close to the style of Zhangcao script. The inscriptions and the inscriptions of youxianpian are written by Xue Ji and Zhong Shaojing, two famous calligraphers in Tang Dynasty. Calligraphy lovers of all ages regard the "stele of Prince Shengxian" as a treasure of calligraphy art. The inscriptions contain some interesting materials in the history of Chinese character reform. The upper and lower sections of the inscription and the Miscellaneous Poems and titles of youxianpian in Beiyin were all written by famous writers at that time. Therefore, the tablet was praised as a treasure by calligraphy lovers of all dynasties. On May 25, 2006, as a stone carving of the Tang Dynasty, the stele of Prince Shengxian was approved by the State Council to be listed in the Sixth Batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
