Houliu town

Houliu town is located along the Hanjiang River, 18 kilometers south of Shiquan County, bordering Chihe town in the East, Xihe town in the south, ironing town and Xixiang County in the west, and Chengguan town in the north. The town is about 25 kilometers wide from east to west, 13.5 kilometers long from north to south, covering an area of 154 square kilometers, with an existing cultivated area of 12564 mu. It has 17 administrative departments, 105 villager groups and 1 neighborhood committee, with a total output of 4960 households and a total population of 14611.

Historical evolution

In history, houliu was rich in tung oil. People built a bank along the river and built an oil workshop to produce tung oil, so it was called "youfangkan". In the Qing Dynasty, houliu town was under the jurisdiction of huairouli. In 1931, it was called Changchun Town. In 1939, it was renamed houliu town. In 1951, when the democratic government was established, it was named houliu township. In 1958, it was under the jurisdiction of Xihe commune. In 1961, it was changed into houliu commune, under the jurisdiction of houliu district. In 1966, it was renamed Dongfeng commune during the cultural revolution. In 1971, the original name of houliu commune was restored. In 1983, it was changed to houliu Township when the government and society were separated. In 1984, it was renamed houliu town. In December 1996, the district was withdrawn and the township was established. Houliu town became one of the 17 townships (now 15 townships) under the jurisdiction of Shiquan County. In July 2011, Zhongba township was transferred to houliu town and merged into houliu Town, becoming one of the 11 towns in the county. In January 1977, shimong road was opened to traffic, and houliu town was the only place to pass through. Since then, the history of houliu transportation relying on water shipping has been rewritten. In 2002, the construction of Shizi third-class highway started. Later, Liuzhou became a fortress connecting Ziyang County with Zhongba, Xihe and ironing in the county, and hanyangping in Xixiang and Hanyin counties.

The ancient stone Buddha Temple is located in the west of houliu town. The ancient temple was built in the prosperous period of Buddhism in our country. Now a stone statue of Buddha and a Green Marble Plaque of "ancient stone Buddha Temple" are still alive.

Xiangbai Shiyan is six kilometers down the Hanjiang River in the southeast of the town. The rock series is granite, gray white. The rock rises from the Hanjiang River and plunges into the sky. The section is steep and vertical, like an axe.

Xiangbai rock is famous for its precipitousness since ancient times. The amazing thing is: on the smooth rock, there are graceful and evergreen cedars growing tenaciously. From a distance, it looks like a silver gray screen inlaid with emerald gems. On the rocks about five or six feet above the ground, there is a small stone nest every one foot away from the ground, which is the footprints of the boat pulled by the trackers over the years. With the construction of Shiquan Ziyang third class highway, some landscapes no longer exist.

The green cedars on the rocks are not only beautiful, but also can be used as medicine to cure diseases and measles in children. It is said that there are precious medicinal materials such as gold earrings on the rocks, which can't be picked because of the steepness. There is no historical record of the folklore that the herb gatherers collected aloes here long ago.

Xianyuquan cave is located at the junction of Chihe town and the east of Hanjiang River in houliu town. It is about 4 km from Hanjiang River to Dongkou and can accommodate hundreds of people. There is a sweet spring well in the cave. The spring water is clear and cool. According to legend, a long time ago, there were two red carp in this spring, and then "every year it rained, and there were fish in the cave, and the villagers fought for them.". So it's called Xianyu cave. Carp go up the slope along the Hanjiang River from houliu town. About four kilometers from the rocks on the East Bank of the river, there are several "carp go up the slope". Then along the steep hillside of the river, there is a black stone shaped like a centipede, which is planted into the Hanjiang River.
