Rose Hall is subordinate to the old Dominic church. It was built by Spanish monks who arrived in Macao from the Philippines in 1587, and was soon managed by Portuguese believers. The church was built in honor of the Virgin Mary of the rose. It was originally built of camphor wood, so it was also known as "banzhang hall". Later, it was replaced with solid brick plastered with mortar.
There are many interesting paintings and statues in the church, especially the one of Jesus Christ. In 1997, the Macao government carried out a comprehensive maintenance project for the church, and set up a treasure house of sacred objects in the three storey clock tower, which collected more than 300 precious Catholic cultural relics in Macao, including mass supplies, wooden statues and other treasures.
Rose Hall
Rose church is a common Church in Catholic churches. Rose church is built in many different parishes, such as Macao Virgin Mary Rose church. The main guardian of Rose Hall is the virgin rose.
Historical evolution
The history of Macao's Notre Dame Rose Hall can be traced back to the early 17th century. The church was built on the basis of the prayer rooms and monasteries built by the Catholic Church of Santo Domingo in the 1690s. The exterior of the church is made of pale yellow stone and white plaster, with green shutters. Inside, white pillars support the ceiling, and there are balconies around the walls of the hall. On the Baroque altar stands the ivory Virgin Mary and the son, and there is also a picture of Jesus. The church also has a large collection of exquisite ivory and wood carved religious objects.
The history of Notre Dame rose is full of ups and downs. In 1644, an officer who supported Spain and opposed Portugal was murdered at mass. In 1707, the Santo dominoes united with the Pope to oppose the bishop of Macao at that time. When local soldiers tried to force them out, the monks locked the church door for three days and threw stones at them. In 1834, the ban was enforced, and the church was once used by the government as a military camp, stable and office.
Notre Dame Rose Hall was renovated on a large scale in 1997. Its first to third floors are open to the public as museums. The collection contains a large number of paintings, sculptures and religious artifacts, showing the history of Roman Catholic Church in Asia for hundreds of years.
In 1587, it was built by the Spanish church of Santo Domingo to worship our lady of the rosary. The next year, it was taken over by the Portuguese priests of the church. At first, it was only made of wooden boards, so it was called "banzhangtang" by the Chinese. It was not until the 17th century that it was changed into a brick and stone structure. In 1874, it was burned by a fire, and then rebuilt to a new scale. Large scale renovations were carried out in the 1990s and in 2006. The bell tower beside the holy hall has been transformed into a treasure house of sacred objects to display the cultural relics of Macao Parish, which is a part of Macao's historical city and has been depicted by many artists in Macao.
Every year, mass is held at about 6:00 on May 13, and a tour of the Virgin Mary of huadima is held to bishop hill at about 6:30. It means that the world should not forget that the Virgin Mary taught the three shepherds in huadima, Portugal, to pray for world peace.
