Former residence of Jiading, Shanghai
Houde hall is located in the west gate of Jiading, No. 94-96, West Street, Jiading town, Shanghai. It was built by Gu Qingchuan, President of Bank of communications in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. Today, houdetang has been ordered by Shanghai Municipality on November 17, 2003 to register as an immovable cultural relic in Jiading District. "Houde hall" has more than 30 rooms, brick and wood structure, cottages and buildings alternate, one bay in the south, two deep, five bay in the north, three deep. It is now a place for a department store to pile up sundries. Although it is dilapidated, the carved boards under the eaves and the blue bricks and money ornaments on the ground can be seen. There is a water bridge and a water well in Houde hall. Except for the street facing bungalows which were transformed into buildings, the rest of them are basically unchanged. On the ground in front of the door is the shape of Qing coins paved with bricks, which not only symbolizes the identity of the owner, but also seems to imply the meaning of "round outside and square inside".
Gu Weijun's former residence not only contains all kinds of Chinese and foreign books about Gu Weijun, but also a large number of objects used by Gu Weijun, such as his uniform, hat, sabre, stationery, various honorary certificates and annotated documents he obtained, and souvenirs he collected. A large number of photos of Gu Weijun, from his powerful youth to his later life, are shown in the photos. In these photos, we can see Gu Weijun's self-confidence and elegance. There is no inferiority and cowardice in his eyes. As a diplomatic envoy, he represents an ancient civilization with a history of 5000 years. He is a giant who has not yet awakened. I believe that in his heart, he is proud of this. Otherwise, he could not have done so. The announcer of Gu Weijun Memorial said that the exhibits on display here were provided by Gu Weijun's family in the United States.
All the exhibits about Gu Weijun have been moved to the Gu Weijun Memorial Hall in the fahua tower courtyard in the center of Jiading city. There are photos of Gu Weijun's life, collected medals, certificates of appointment, gowns, and the original diary.
