XiaoYushan park is the first classical hilltop garden in Qingdao. Originally, this mountain had no proper name. Later, it was called "XiaoYushan" because it was close to Yushan road.

XiaoYushan is located in the southeast corner of Yushan campus of Ocean University of China, to the north of the east section of Laiyang road in Qingdao. There is Yushan road nearby, so it gets its name.

Development history

XiaoYushan is a famous scenic spot with classical style in Qingdao, with an altitude of 60 meters and an area of 2.5 hectares.

From west to East, you can see a series of beautiful coastal scenery: trestle, little Qingdao, Lu Xun Park, aquarium, Huiquan Bay, the first bathing beach, Badaguan scenic spot, etc.

In 1934, in order to promote Buddhism, Wang Jinyu, a Buddhist monk, sponsored the construction of a lecture hall on the top of Xiaoyu mountain, which was called Zhanshan jingshe. It covers an area of about 12 mu, two floors up and down, in the form of ancient architecture, covered with black tiles. Looking from a distance, it is an independent standard in many buildings in Qingdao. After the completion of Zhanshan jingshe, the "Buddhist Research Society" and "law logistics office" moved to XiaoYushan. Every Sunday afternoon, many people from all walks of life come to listen to the Sutra, and XiaoYushan has become a place for promoting Buddhism. Landscape features

Originally, this mountain had no proper name. Later, it was called "XiaoYushan" because it was close to Yushan road. The main building is "lanchao Pavilion", with three floors and octagonal height of 18 meters. Inside the pavilion are spiral stairs and external guardrail platform. People can walk around the pavilion along the platform to enjoy the unique features of Qingdao, such as "blue sky, blue sea, green mountains, green trees, red tiles and yellow walls". On the west slope of the mountain, there is a cantilevered hexagonal pavilion. Standing in the pavilion, you can see the rippling Huiquan Bay, so it is named "Bibo Pavilion";. To the East is the four corner "Yongcui Pavilion", which is similar in style to "Bibo Pavilion". The above three plaques were inscribed by the famous artist Mr. Wu Zuoren.

On the front of the curved corridor at the junction of XiaoYushan lanchao Pavilion and Yongcui Pavilion, there is a white snowflake stone relief mountain sign with a diameter of two meters. The mountain sign is surrounded by black marble hieroglyphs and murals. The wall of the North corridor is inlaid with the porcelain plate overglaze mural "Eight Immortals crossing the sea", and the wall of the East corridor is inlaid with the large porcelain plate overglaze mural "Pu Songling universe".

Main attractions

Guanchao Pavilion

The main building on the top of the mountain is the Guanchao Pavilion, which is 18 meters high and three-story octagonal. It echoes the Huilan Pavilion of Qianhai trestle. You have the Bibo Pavilion and the Yongcui Pavilion. The plaques are all inscribed by Master Wu Zuoren. In the southeast corner, there is a floating platform three-story teahouse built along the mountain for tourists to have a rest or to see the sea and sky.

The main building at the top of XiaoYushan is an 18 meter high octagonal overhanging eaves building with green glazed tiles and carved beams. The octagonal overhanging eaves are not dragons and phoenixes, but fish heads. The forehead and lintel break the tradition of wood artificial color painting, and are made of porcelain plates to draw colorful patterns around marine life. Lanchao Pavilion echoes Huilan Pavilion of Qianhai trestle.

There are spiral stairs inside the pavilion and a guardrail platform outside. People can walk around the pavilion along the platform to enjoy the unique scenery of "blue sky, blue sea, green mountains, green trees, red tiles and yellow walls". Along the spiral stairs, you can climb to the second and third floors of the pavilion. Each floor has a guardrail platform made of white marble. People can walk around the pavilion along the platform and have a panoramic view of the first bathing beach, Huiquan Bay, Qingdao Bay, aquarium, Lu Xun Park, Naval Museum, trestle, little Qingdao and other seaside scenery. It is known as the best place for people to overlook the urban area and seaside scenery of Qingdao.

Yongcui Pavilion, Bibo Pavilion

On the East and west sides of lanchao Pavilion, there are overhanging eaves pavilions covered with green tiles. In the East is "Yongcui Pavilion" and in the west is "Bibo Pavilion". Visitors can enjoy the sea waves, sails and shadows, as well as the lush mountain scenery. On the East platform, there is a long corridor for tourists to have a rest. The corridor is inlaid with large colored glaze murals. They are all based on myths and legends and Liaozhai stories, such as "Eight Immortals crossing the sea", "promoting weaving", "fragrant jade" and "Xi Fangping". They are gorgeous in color and beautiful in shape. They not only give people the enjoyment of beauty, but also add a bit of Fairy Spirit to XiaoYushan.
