The history of fujinmen
In the Ming Dynasty, there were four gates in Shengjing city. After Huangtaiji entered Shengjing City, the four gates were changed into eight gates. There is an interesting saying about the architectural layout of the capital of Shengjing in the Qing Dynasty: it was planned according to the theory of eight trigrams in the book of changes, that is, "Taiji generates two Yi, two Yi generate four Xiang, four Xiang generate eight trigrams, eight trigrams should be nine palaces". The eight trigrams refer to the eight gates of Shengjing. To the East, neizhimen (Xiaodongmen) on the left and fujianmen (Dadongmen) on the right; to the south, Deshengmen (dananmen) on the left and tianyoumen (Xiaonanmen) on the right; to the west, Huaiyuanmen (daximen) on the left and waihuanmen (xiaoximen) on the right; to the north, dizaimen (xiaobeimen) on the left and Fusheng (dabeimen) on the right. The eight gates are opposite to each other: God's blessing is to the earth, virtue is to the blessing, internal governance is to the outside, and caressing the near is to Huaiyuan. The moral of its name is so profound. With the vicissitudes of time, most of the eight gates in Shengjing have disappeared except for Huaiyuanmen and fujinmen. What remains is only the place name.
To pacify one's neighbors means to pacify them. When other ethnic minorities came to Shenyang to pay homage to Huangtaiji, they all went to fujinmen, which has a certain ritual function. At the same time, fujinmen is located in the east of the ancient city. It is the place where the sun rises every day. It also has the auspicious meaning of Ziqi coming to the East.
A street in Qing Dynasty
In the Qing Dynasty, a street started from fujinmen in the East and ended at Huaiyuanmen in the West. Originally named Xinzheng street, it was built in the 31th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. It is said that at that time, because it was close to the prefecture government, it was generally a place for litigants and reporters to rest and wait for letters. Therefore, the street was full of hotels, restaurants and teahouses. Today, the street is still dominated by catering industry. There are many shops operating snacks, teahouses, restaurants and other businesses in the street. At the north exit of the street, on the wooden columns on both sides of the street are couplets written by Bao Rukai, a famous Sichuan calligrapher and former high school administrator. It can be seen that the prosperity of the street in those days.
Walking under the gate of Huaiyuan and looking up at this magnificent building that remembers history, it's like being in the ancient city of Qing Dynasty. Stepping into this ancient street, the first thing you can see is the antique buildings on both sides of the road. The buildings have double eaves, and under each eaves are painted with lacquer. The beautiful patterns are colorful. The pair of gold lettered and black plaques in front of the door are dancing. When dusk comes, the roof and the colored lights on each eaves complement each other, making each floor more magnificent .
Current situation of fujinmen
Nowadays, except for Huaiyuanmen and fujinmen, the other six gates in Shengjing leave only place names. Huaiyuan gate and Fujin gate were both rebuilt in recent years. However, due to the limitation of road traffic requirements and the hasty process of reconstruction, the proportion of the two gates (especially Huaiyuan gate) is seriously out of balance, but it can also be regarded as a memorial to history.
