Rongbaozhai is a well-known shop with a history of more than 300 years. Rongbaozhai is located in the West Street of Liulichang outside Hepingmen, Beijing. It is a tall antique building with antique flavor and carved beams.

It has been more than 300 years since the establishment of nanzhidian, the predecessor of rongbaozhai in Beijing in 1672. In 1894, songzhuzhai was set up as rongbaozhai, and the organization of "tietaozuo" was added, which laid a foundation for the development of woodblock watermarking.

It's hard to sustain

After the Opium War, it was difficult to maintain the matsuzhu studio. The owner hired Zhuang Huchen, a famous scholar in Guangjiao capital, as the manager. In 1894, the name of the store was changed to rongbaozhai, which means "to make friends by writing, and to honor the name as treasure". Lu Runxiang, a famous calligrapher at that time, was invited to inscribe the plaque of "rongbaozhai".

Public private partnership

In 1950, the public-private joint venture "rongbaozhai Xinji" was born. In the past 50 years since the founding of new China, rongbaozhai in Beijing has been widely supported by the government and all walks of life, creating and accumulating countless spiritual and material wealth. In particular, in the past 30 years, the state has promoted various reforms and opening-up with economic construction as the center. During this period, Beijing rongbaozhai has expanded its business fields and business channels on the basis of developing its traditional business. It has set up distribution offices in Shandong, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Liaoning, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Hubei, Jilin and other places, and strengthened its domestic commercial and cultural activities.

The development of rongbaozhai has gone through a tortuous road. Bo Yibo, a revolutionary of the older generation, encouraged Rong Baozhai to "be more modest under his fame" and keep forging ahead. Comrade Zheng Bijian praised Rong Baozhai as a "cultural hero".
