The predecessor of Shenyang railway exhibition hall is Shenyang railway steam locomotive exhibition hall, which was built in 1984. In March 2005, Shenyang Steam Locomotive Museum moved from Qipanshan botanical garden to Tiexi Forest Park in Shenyang. In 2010, the exhibition hall moved again and finally settled at No. 8, Shandan street, Sujiatun District.

On October 11, 2018, he was selected into the list of "national primary and secondary students' research and practice education base".

Shenyang railway exhibition hall covers an area of 80000 square meters, with a building area of 19000 square meters. By the end of 2018, it is still the largest railway exhibition hall in Northeast China. The newly completed Shenyang railway exhibition hall integrates collection, display, publicity and education. It is mainly divided into railway equipment exhibition area, historical materials and pictures exhibition area, transportation capacity exhibition area and safety education exhibition area. In the exhibition hall, the first old locomotive was made in the United States in 1907. It was mainly used for regional freight trains. At that time, the speed was only 55 kilometers per hour. After 77 years of use, it was retired in 1984. In addition, there are 28 steam locomotives, diesel locomotives and electric locomotives on display in the museum. In addition to the earliest steam locomotives made in the United States in 1907, there are freight cars made in the former Soviet Union in 1911. In the display area of the old locomotives, there are also 12 times of the national hero train, the Beijing Shenyang express. Three bright red numbers of "811" are hung in front of the train. It is on this train that in 1959, in a big flood, the crew fought with the flood for three days and three nights, ensuring the safety of more than 600 passengers and rescuing more than 300 local people.
