Beijing Botanical Garden is located in the northwest of Beijing, about 5 kilometers east of Xiangshan Park. Visitors can enjoy a variety of flowers and plants in the park, visit Cao Xueqin Memorial Hall and Tang Dynasty ancient temple, and have a mountain outing in Cherry Valley in the north of the park to enjoy the wild fun and rich experience.
There are many gates in the botanical garden. Generally, visitors can enter the garden from the south gate or the southeast gate, and then follow the central axis road to the north. The park is divided into three parts: plant exhibition area, scenic area and nature reserve. Each part has a different view.
Plant exhibition area:
It is divided into ornamental plant area, arboretum and greenhouse area. The ornamental plant area is composed of various specialized gardens, including rose garden, peach garden, peony garden, peony garden, plum garden, etc. Among them, the rose garden is the largest specialized rose garden in China at present, which can enjoy nearly a thousand rose varieties; peach garden is the specialized rose garden with the largest collection of peach varieties in the world, and the "Beijing Peach Blossom Festival" in March every year attracts many visitors. In addition, every autumn, large ginkgo trees in the arboretum are golden, attracting many tourists. In the greenhouse of tropical plant exhibition, typical plant landscapes in different climatic zones are displayed. In the ginkgo pine and cypress area, there is also the cemetery of Liang Qichao, a famous reformer.
Scenic spots and historic sites:
The main places of interest in the garden are Cao Xueqin Memorial Hall in the central and southern part of the garden and Wofo temple in the northern part of the botanical garden. After entering the garden from the south gate, you can reach these two scenic spots along Zhongzhou Road all the way north.
Natural Reserve:
The main scenic spot is the cherry valley in the northwest of the park, which is famous for its wild taste. The stream in the ditch is clear, and the Metasequoia glyptostroboides, known as "living fossil", become a forest here. There is a kind of quiet atmosphere in the valley here, which is a good place for mountain outing.
In recent years, the botanical garden has become a good place for Beijing citizens to take wedding photos because of its lush trees and blooming flowers. The climate of Beijing Botanical Garden is typical semi humid continental monsoon climate in north temperate zone. It is hot and rainy in summer, cold and dry in winter, and short in spring and autumn.
From 1996 to 2003, the average annual temperature of Beijing Botanical Garden was 12.8 ℃, the annual precipitation was 532.6 mm, the average temperature in January was - 2.5 ℃, the average temperature in July was 32.0 ℃, the extreme minimum temperature in January was - 13.8 ℃, and the extreme maximum temperature in July was 38 ℃.

As of 2014, Beijing Botanical Garden (hereinafter referred to as South Garden) has more than 3000 kinds of plants, and the main visit point is the greenhouse exhibition area, with 13 exhibition areas and more than 1500 kinds of plants.
There are more than 10000 species (including varieties) of plants introduced and cultivated in the park, and nearly 1.5 million plants. It covers an area of about 900 mu. The botanical garden has cultivated more than 6000 kinds of plants, including 2000 kinds of trees and shrubs, 1620 kinds of tropical and subtropical plants, 500 kinds of flowers and 1900 kinds of fruit trees, aquatic plants, Chinese herbal medicine, etc. It is the largest botanical garden in North China and a scientific research base specialized in theoretical research and experiment of plant introduction and domestication.
The center of the garden is the plant exhibition greenhouse, with 13 exhibition rooms. There are more than 1500 tropical and subtropical plants, including stone flower, single tree, dancing orchid and other precious plants.
There are more than 1000 tropical plants in tropical greenhouses, including palm plants, tropical aquatic plants, Wang Lianshi, pulpy plants, medicinal plants, industrial raw materials plants, orchids, aromatic plants, tropical fruit trees and citrus plants. The arboretum here covers an area of 70000 square meters, with rare Chinese species such as silver fir, American Redwood and Sri Lanka bodhi tree. There are also special gardens and the National Herbarium.
The plants cultivated in the botanical garden include many rare species. For example, Metasequoia glyptostroboides was first discovered by Chinese scientists in Hubei and Sichuan in 1941. Since Metasequoia glyptostroboides was thought to have been extinct in the Tertiary period of Cenozoic (65 million years ago), the discovery of its living specimen in China shocked the botany circle.
Other plants in the botanical garden include Nepenthes, which can prey on insects, Sequoia from former US President Nixon, cherry blossom from former Japanese Prime Minister Kazuo Tanaka, Kingdee orchid from former Philippine President Marcos and his wife, bodhi tree from former Sri Lankan Prime Minister silimavo bandaranek, under which the Buddha once became a Taoist, and late Qing Dynasty emperor Puyi I work in the botanical garden.

The Beijing Botanical Garden was established in 1956 with the approval of the State Council. Its planned area is 400 hectares. The maximum distance from east to west is about 3.5 kilometers, and the maximum distance from north to south is about 2.5 kilometers. As of 2014, 200 hectares of open tourist areas have been built. Beijing Botanical Garden consists of four parts: plant exhibition area, historical and cultural landscape, nature reserve and scientific research area.
The plant exhibition area (about 94 hectares) is divided into three parts: ornamental plant area (42.47 hectares), arboretum (44.9 hectares) and greenhouse area (6 hectares). The ornamental plant area consists of special gardens, mainly rose garden, peach garden, peony garden, peony garden, Dingxiang garden, Begonia Cotoneaster garden, magnolia garden, Jixiu Garden (bamboo garden), perennial flower garden and plum garden. Rose garden is the largest specialized rose garden in China, with nearly 1000 rose varieties cultivated. Peach garden is a special garden with the largest collection of peach varieties in the world. The arboretum is composed of Ginkgo pine and cypress area, maple rose area, Tilia poplar area, Magnolia Berberis area, Platanus acerifolia Quercus area and Paulownia Fraxinus area. There are also Chinese herbal medicine garden, wild fruit tree resource area, environmental protection plant area, aquatic and liana plant area, rare and endangered plant area, and tropical greenhouse. The greenhouse for tropical plants exhibition was rated as one of the top ten buildings in Beijing in the 1990s. The bonsai garden was opened in 1995.
Bonsai garden mainly displays the skills and works of various schools of bonsai in China.
The scenic spot is composed of Wofo temple, cherry ditch, Cao Xueqin memorial hall, Liang Qichao tomb and Longjiao Temple site. Wofo temple, built in the Tang Dynasty, is a key cultural relic protection unit of the state. It contains a bronze statue of Sakyamuni in the Yuan Dynasty. Cherry Valley is an important nature reserve and education area in the suburb of Beijing.
The botanical garden mainly displays the plant resources in Northeast, northwest and North China, taking into account some ornamental plants in central and South Subtropical China. It has both scientific content and landscape appearance. In accordance with the principle of "adjusting measures to local conditions, taking advantage of the opportunity to build the garden and highlighting plant landscaping", the botanical garden has built a pine and cypress area and more than ten specialized gardens. Each garden has its own style. There are Chinese style idyllic scenery, French palace style neat and rigorous layout, and English style open and stretching picture.
The tropical greenhouse has four exhibition areas in the Botanical Garden: tropical rain forest exhibition area, four seasons garden exhibition area, desert plant exhibition area and special plant exhibition area, showing typical plant landscapes under different climatic conditions.

Peony Garden
Peony garden is located in the west of Wofosi Road, adjacent to greenhouse area in the South and Begonia Cotoneaster garden in the north, covering an area of about 4.5 hectares. The main task is to collect tree peony varieties, conserve tree peony germplasm resources, cultivate and promote improved varieties, and popularize tree peony distribution, classification, genetic breeding, cultivation and management knowledge. 3229 peony varieties and 6568 peony varieties were collected and planted in the garden. They were introduced from Zhaolou, Liji, Helou, Hongmiao, Dengzhuang in Heze, Shandong Province, Luoyang in Henan Province and Tianshui in Gansu Province. They are the largest peony garden with the largest variety and quantity in Beijing. The design of Peony Garden adopts natural style, adapts measures to local conditions and takes advantage of the situation.
