Qian Xuesen's former residence covers an area of 1.3 mu. The house is of wood structure, and the main color is old red. It is a three entrance residence, connected by two patios and a back garden. The former residence belongs to Hangzhou cultural relics protection site.
On the plaque of the main hall on the first floor, "be diligent and thrifty" is the family motto of the Qian family.
On the second floor, the warmth and kindness of "home" are highlighted. In Qian Xuesen's study, the pen, ink, paper and inkstone placed quietly have the unique charm of "Jiangnan scholarly family". In the exhibition room, there are wooden cupboards used by the rich family in Shanghai in the 1950s, as well as a lot of daily necessities. Casserole, wardrobe, suitcase These are all used by Qian Xuesen in his lifetime.

Qian Xuesen's father, Qian Junfu, is a native of Hangzhou. He was the principal of Zhejiang provincial No.1 Middle School (now Hangzhou No.4 Middle School). His mother, Zhang Lanjuan, was the daughter of a wealthy businessman in Hangzhou. Qian Xuesen was born in Shanghai, where he spent his childhood life before the age of three.
In 1929, Qian Xuesen was admitted to the Department of mechanical engineering of Jiaotong University (now Shanghai Jiaotong University and Xi'an Jiaotong University). He spent winter and summer vacations in Hangzhou every year, and returned to Hangzhou for one year due to typhoid fever.
In 1935, when he graduated from University, he worked as an intern in Hangzhou aircraft factory for a period of time, and studied in the United States in the same year.
On October 8, 1955, Qian Xuesen, his wife and children broke through the resistance and returned to the motherland from the United States. In the middle of October, a family of four came back from Shanghai to Hangzhou to take their children to find their roots and visit the West Lake, but they have never returned to their hometown since then. On October 31, Qian Lao died in Beijing. Qian Xuesen's former residence at Fangguyuan No.2 is open to the public for three days. A small memorial hall is set up in a living room at the main entrance to receive public mourning. In the hall, there is a portrait of Qian Lao, with a picture board recording his life and many wreaths and baskets. Many citizens came spontaneously to mourn. In the Xiaoying park next door, there is a portrait of Qian Xuesen, engraved with his life. In front of the portrait, it was also filled with flowers to express sadness.
