Baogong Lake

Baogong lake is an inner city lake in Kaifeng City, Henan Province, located in the southwest corner of the ancient city in Song Dynasty. The whole lake presents a northwest southeast trend, like a reclining gourd. To the west of the middle, there is a north-south road across the lake, Yingbin Road. To the southwest, there is Baogong Hunan Road. Around the lake are Baogong temple, Yanqing temple and other places of interest.

The legend of Baogong Lake

It is said that when Baogong was a child, his second sister-in-law coaxed him to play by the well for fear that he would grow up and divide his family property, and pushed him into the well. Fortunately, it was a dry well, but Bao Gong didn't hurt himself when he fell to the bottom. Suddenly there was a light in front of him. He picked it up and looked at it carefully. It turned out to be a crescent shaped ancient mirror. The bright mirror reflects the scene of the second elder brother and sister-in-law plotting against him repeatedly. They are drinking and celebrating in the room. Bao Gong knew that it was a strange mirror, which was precious on his forehead. Strange to say, the mirror could not be removed any more, but grew on his forehead. Later, when Bao Gong became the magistrate of Kaifeng, he relied on this treasure land to break the Yin by night and the Yang by day. He had a clear insight and found out numerous suspicious cases and upheld justice for the common people. When Bao Gong was dying, he was afraid that his successor would take bribes to sell the law and harm the good people, so he took off his mirror from his forehead and ordered people to hang quietly in the main hall of Kaifeng mansion, and then he closed his eyes safely. I don't know how many dynasties passed. A guy named Qian Ruming spent 5000 Liang to become a Kaifeng magistrate. He planned to work for three years and two years and make a windfall. " When the two brothers were ruined, they realized that they had been cheated and cried out in unison: "my Lord, I won't fight this lawsuit. Give us the money back quickly!" Qian Ruming didn't expect them to reveal the truth on the spot. His face suddenly changed color: "nonsense, bloody mouth.". My house is clean and spotless. Who has collected your money? " The brothers pointed up and said, "the mirror is high, and the evidence is as strong as a mountain!" All eyes focused on the lobby. Baojing gave the brothers money again. The corruption and bribery happened again. Suddenly, the inside and outside of the lobby were fried. Qian Ruming didn't know what was going on, so he left his seat and looked up. When he saw that the mirror had exposed his ghost trick and revealed his true appearance, he was terrified and all over softened. "Plop" fell to the ground, unconscious. The scandal spread all over the city like wings, and no one could but scold Qian Ruming.

Qian Ruming was scared and scared, and he was bedridden from then on. The treasure realm swayed in front of him all the time, repeating his ugly deeds and bad deeds in Kaifeng. When he closed his eyes, he saw Bao sunspot glaring at him. The Dynasty and Mahan wanted to cut him with tiger's head. No matter who he met, he got up from the bed and knelt down to beg for mercy: "Mr. Bao, please forgive me..." One morning, in front of the yamen, the people found that Qian Ruming was naked and out of breath.

Later, when the Yellow River burst, Funan Yamen in Kaifeng became a pool of water, and the mirror sank to the bottom of the lake, so the water was as clear as a mirror. It is said that those who have done bad deeds never dare to pass by the lake, for fear that the mirror will reveal their privacy and will be severely punished by Bao Gong. People call this lake Baogong Lake in memory of Baogong. In recent years, through dredging, renovation and beautification, a tourist area with many buildings and pleasant scenery has been built.
