Wanlu lake, the largest lake in South China, also known as Xinfengjiang reservoir, is the largest ecotourism scenic spot in South China. It is named because it is green in all seasons and everywhere. When Xinfengjiang Hydropower Station was planned to be built in 1958, a dam was built to store water in yaposhan gorge at the lower reaches of Xinfengjiang River, only 6 km away from Heyuan City, Guangdong Province.

In 1993, Xinfengjiang reservoir was planned as a national forest park by the Ministry of forestry of the people's Republic of China. In 2001, it was awarded the environmental education base of Guangdong Province. In July 2002, it was rated as AAAA tourist area by the National Tourism Administration. Within 200 kilometers from Guangzhou and Shenzhen, it can be called the "back garden" of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Wanlu lake is a scenic spot built on Xinfengjiang reservoir.

General situation of reservoir
