Yizheng Drum Tower

Yizheng Drum Tower is located in the urban landscape belt of Yizheng City, Jiangsu Province. It was built in 1487 A.D., the 23rd year of Chenghua in Ming Dynasty, and is located in the center of Zhenzhou Town, where Yizheng municipal government is located.

The building is built on a high platform with arched passageways. It is 8.2 meters wide in three rooms and 5 meters deep in two floors. The floor is paved with simple tiles. It is a double eaves and nine ridges structure with cloisters. The building is 28.6 meters high and covers an area of 518.86 square meters, reflecting the superb architectural skills of the ancient working people.

The building is one of the three existing drum towers in Jiangsu Province (Yizheng Drum Tower, Nanjing Drum Tower, Huai'an Zhenhuai tower). Yizheng Drum Tower is also the most elegant of the three.

Tablet Inscription

There are two inscriptions, one for Jiajing Jiashen years (AD 1542) records the drum tower was opened as the Guan King worship temple; the other for Jiajing 44 years (AD 1565) records the historical facts of Japanese invasion of China's southeast coast.

Li Yining's former residence is in cuijiaxiang, south of the drum tower.

Yizheng Drum Tower is one of the three existing drum towers in Jiangsu Province.

Location of Drum Tower

The drum tower is located in the center of Zhenzhou Town, where Yizheng municipal government is located. It was first built in the 23rd year of Chenghua (1487) in the Ming Dynasty (but according to the records of Longqing Yizheng county annals in the Ming Dynasty, the building was built in the 14th year of Chenghua in the autumn of 1478). After many repairs in the Qing Dynasty and after the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was overhauled in 2000 to preserve its original style. Facing south, the platform is 26.8 meters wide, 20.9 meters deep and 6.75 meters high. There are two floors on the top of the platform. The floor is 8.2 meters wide and 5 meters deep, with double eaves on the top of the mountain. The building is 28.6 meters high and covers an area of 518.86 square meters.
