Shuangfeng temple was founded by Zhidun monk, an eminent monk in Henan Province. It was originally named Shuangfeng temple. It is said that the name of Shuangfeng town originated from Shuangfeng temple. The original Shuangfeng temple covers an area of 42 mu, including zhengshanmen, Ermen, Tianwang hall, bell and Drum Tower, and Daxiong hall. On the east side, there are Yuantong hall, dizang hall, Yanshou hall and Chan hall; on the west side, there are Sutra collection building, Luohan hall, shuiyuexuan, lotus pool, Jiuqu bridge, Huxin Pavilion, etc. Shuangfeng temple is a famous ancient temple in southern Jiangsu. It is said that the temple has 1048 rooms. For more than 1600 years, Shuangfeng temple has been built and destroyed repeatedly. At the beginning of the Republic of China, there were few houses in the temple. In 1928, Taicang County Education Bureau opened Taicang County Rural normal school with Yufang. In 1934, the normal school closed down and opened primary school. In 1945, Shuangfeng primary school was expanded and the house was demolished to Shuangfeng primary school.

Rebuild brilliance

In the spring of 2002, all walks of life and Shanghai Hongfu Enterprise Development Co., Ltd. jointly initiated the reconstruction of Shuangfeng temple with the approval of the higher authorities. The reconstructed Shuangfeng temple has the momentum of a famous temple in the south of the Yangtze River. The architectural pattern not only refers to the original appearance of Shuangfeng temple, but also combines with the traditional layout of Buddhist temples, fully reflecting the strict structure and antique artistic characteristics of Buddhist temples. At the same time, more green land is set up to create a quiet and elegant leisure atmosphere. The first phase of the construction of the temple lasted three years. A group of buildings, consisting of the magnificent main hall and the rooms with apricot walls and black tiles, stand beside the Yantie pond in the east end of the city. A four pillar stone archway and carved dragon and Phoenix stone pillars on both sides of the Square in front of the temple are magnificent. To the east of the memorial archway are the heavenly king hall and the main hall. The shape of Tianwang hall is unique. The main hall is located on the terrace, with seven rooms wide and six circles deep inside. It is tall and magnificent with pillars painted and beams carved. Looking up at the main hall, people feel awed. On the right side of the main hall are nianfo hall, blissful hall, zushi hall and Gongde hall; on the left side are Hakka hall, Yanshou hall and Jianyuan room. The eastern part of Dianyu district is the living area of the temple, with comprehensive building, Zhaitang, restaurant, etc. The reconstructed Shuangfeng Temple reappears the past glory of the millennium old temple, and is also a rare Buddhist temple in Taicang area. It is not only an ideal place for worshiping the Buddha, but also a good place for people's leisure.

On October 28, 2007, Shuangfeng temple in Taicang City held the opening ceremony of the statues of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Zhou Xiangqun, member of the Standing Committee of Suzhou municipal Party committee and head of the United Front Work Department, member of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, vice chairman of the Chinese Buddhist Association, chairman of Jiangsu and Suzhou Buddhist associations, great monk Mingxue, member of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, vice chairman of the Chinese Buddhist Association, chairman of the Shanghai Buddhist Association, great monk awaking and Suzhou Buddhist Association The association's great monks Pu Ren and Qiu Shuang, together with Taicang City leaders Pu Ronggao, Xie Ming, song Jianzhong, Zhu Yifang and Jin Shiming, attended the ceremony and unveiled the statues of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.

The story of getting the name

Shuangfeng is named after Shuangfeng Temple: it is said that in 331 A.D., when Zhidun, a monk from Henan Province, was passing through Shuangfeng to recite scriptures, he suddenly saw a Buddha light in the evening. The next day, he dug in the place where Xiangguang broke the ground and got a stone tablet and a stone box of Shuangfeng's good fortune by Huang shiweng. After opening the stone box, I saw a pair of stone turtles in the stone box. Then there was a loud noise, and the pair of stone turtles turned into a pair of Phoenix. Zhidun then presented the matter to Emperor chengdi of Jin Dynasty. The emperor was very happy when he saw it. He issued an imperial edict to give it the name of "Shuangfeng township". He built a temple where he found "Shuangfeng" and specially granted a plaque of "Shuangfeng Temple", which created a precedent of Shuangfeng Buddhist culture.

Historical evolution

During the reign of Jin Xianhe (326-334), Zhidun, a famous monk, gave lectures all the way from Jiankang (now Nanjing) in the capital. He came to Suzhou to visit Mr. Qu Zhen, a famous scholar in Meili. In the evening, they sat down to talk about scriptures and Taoism. Suddenly, five colors of light flashed in the southeast. In order to find this light source, Zhidun and his disciples came to Nansha, Changshu. They met two big trees on a high ground. The master and apprentice stopped and sat by the side of the tree to observe. In the middle of the night, five colors of light flashed out from the south of the tree. After dawn, Zhidun led the crowd to dig up the earth, and steam came out from it. He continued to dig down and found a stone letter. The letter contains a pair of turtles. Hearing the news from far and near, I came to watch. In full view of the public, the two turtles turned into a pair of Phoenix and flew in the air. Zhidun was founded here. It was named Shuangfeng temple. The place is a hundred Li circle, named Shuangfeng Township, which contains historical records and has a history of thousands of years.

During the reign of Xiangfu in Song Dynasty, Shuangfeng temple was renamed "Falun Temple". During the reign of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty, the eminent monk Jipu rebuilt the Shuangfeng temple with a large scale, along the central axis: Shanmen, Ermen, Tianwang hall, bell and Drum Tower, Daxiong hall and Fatang hall. On the east side are Yuantong hall, dizang hall, Yanxian hall and Chan hall. On the west side, there are Sutra house, Luohan hall, shuiyuexuan, lotus pond, Jiuqu bridge, Huxin Pavilion, etc., covering 42 mu. There are thousands of dignified Taoist temples. Scholars of all ages come here to chant and leave many poems. According to Ye Hao, a poet of the Qing Dynasty, in his "double resting Falun Abbot's courtyard":

Founded in March 2002, Shuangfeng Memorial Park is a permanent cemetery approved by the Civil Affairs Bureau, with a total investment of more than 100 million yuan. In December 2002, Shuangfeng memorial garden was selected as the governing unit of the 5th China Funeral Association, one of the only three governing units in Shanghai.
