Suzhou chamber of Commerce Museum
Suzhou chamber of Commerce museum is located in the former Quanzhou chamber of Commerce in Shantang street. Suzhou chamber of Commerce museum is not only a Centennial Exhibition of Suzhou chamber of Commerce, but also a concentrated exhibition of Suzhou modern business culture, and a miniature of the development of Suzhou modern history.
Development history
Suzhou is the birthplace of Suzhou business culture. In 1905, after Shanghai and Tianjin, Suzhou officially established the chamber of Commerce. It has jurisdiction over Suzhou, Songjiang, Changzhou and Zhenjiang, as well as various business branches in Taicang Zhili, and jointly administers Jiangsu business with chambers of Commerce in Shanghai and Jiangning. Since its establishment, Suzhou chamber of Commerce has had close contacts with all major chambers of Commerce in China, as well as frequent contacts with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce founded by overseas Chinese in Nanyang, and even with industrial groups in Japan and the United States. With the advantages of convenient transportation, developed economy and prosperous commerce, it has gradually developed into one of the eight largest chambers of Commerce in China, which is as famous as the chambers of Commerce in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Han, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Ningxia.
The location of Suzhou chamber of Commerce Museum takes a lot of ingenuity. It is located in Jinchang District, which is "the first and second-class rich and romantic place in the world of mortals" since ancient times. Shantang is the cultural and leisure center and the largest commercial street of Suzhou in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Function value
On Shantang street of Suzhou chamber of Commerce Museum, there are a large number of merchant guild halls, such as Gangzhou guild hall, Lingnan guild hall, Dongqi guild hall and so on. These guilds were built by foreign businessmen in Suzhou for villagers to live in, meet and discuss, and store goods. The guild hall also has a certain sacrificial function. This is because the shopping malls are unpredictable and the journey is full of risks. In order to pray for God's protection in the business process, the merchants set up a temple in the guild hall to sacrifice their trade God. The guild hall is concerned with the collective "image" of the merchants in a certain place. The merchants often spared no expense in the construction of the guild hall. Now, looking at the former sites of these guildhalls, we can imagine the busy scene of the rich merchants and tycoons going in and out all over Shantang street, and the continuous throughput of the Guildhall wharf.
