Weiting street is the sub center and ecological gateway of Suzhou Industrial Park in the north, with an administrative area of 95 square kilometers, including 36 square kilometers of Yangcheng Lake.
The total population is 310 thousand, of which 80 thousand are registered residence and 230 thousand are migrants.
As of May 2020, it has jurisdiction over 28 communities, including 23 relocated communities and 5 urban communities.
In 2014, Weiting Street achieved a GDP of 1.5 billion yuan.
They broke into the top 30 of "National Top 1000 towns" and the top 15 of "Jiangsu top 100 towns".
Evolution of organizational system
Weiting has a long history. As early as the Neolithic age more than 6000 years ago, the ancestors of Weiting lived, worked and multiplied here. They built houses, cultivated rice, planted hemp, twisted thread and woven kudzu, creating the ancient civilization of Weiting area.
In the 11th century B.C., the eldest son Taibo and the second son Zhongyong (also known as Yuzhong) of gugongyu, the leader of the Zhou nationality, established Gouwu from the south of Shaanxi Province, which was the first name of Wu. Weiting and Kuatang are located in Gouwu.
In the 15th year of King Jing of Zhou Dynasty and the 10th year of King Helu of Wu Dynasty (505 BC), Dongyi forced Wu territory, and Helu led troops to resist and set up camp to repel Dongyi. This is the heyday of Wu. Weiting and Kuatang are the eastern borders of Wu.
In the third year of King yuan of Zhou Dynasty and the 23rd year of King fuchai of Wu (473 BC), Yue destroyed Wu and occupied Wu territory. Only ting and Kuatang belonged to Yue kingdom.
In the seventh year of King Wei of Chu (330 BC), Chu destroyed Yue. Wu belonged to Chu, while Wei Ting and Kuatang belonged to Chu.
In the 25th year of the reign of the king of Qin (222 BC), Qin Pingding established Jiangnan and set up Kuaiji prefecture to govern Wu County. Only ting and Kuatang belonged to Wu County.
In the third year of the second Qin Dynasty (207 BC), Xiang Yu became the overlord of Western Chu. Wu belonged to Chu, and only ting and Kuatang belonged to Chu.
In the fifth year of emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty (202 BC), Xiang Yu was defeated and granted Hanxin the title of king of Chu, while only ting and Kuatang were granted Hanxin the title of fief.
In the sixth year of emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty (201 BC), Emperor Gaozu abolished the king of Chu and granted Liu Jia the title of King Jing. Only ting and Kuatang were granted land by Liu Jia.
In the 11th year of emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty (196 BC), King yingbu of Huainan annexed King Jing. In October of the following year (195 BC), Emperor Gaozu Zhu yingbu granted Liu Liao the title of king of Wu, and only ting and Kuatang were granted the title of land.
In the first year (9) of the founding of the people's Republic of China (Wang Mang), Wu County was changed into Taide County, and only ting and Kuatang belonged to Taide county.
In the 23rd year of the new emperor, Wang Mang was killed. Taide county was renamed Wu County. Only ting and Kuatang belonged to Wu County.
In 129, the fourth year of Yongjian in the Eastern Han Dynasty, the county of Kuaiji was divided into Wujun in the west of Qiantang River, and Wujun belonged to only ting and Kuatang.
In the second year of Xingping (195) in the Eastern Han Dynasty, sun CE occupied Wu County; in the second year of Huangchu (221) in the Wei Dynasty, Sun Quan was granted the title of king of Wu, and only Pavilion and cross pond were in the territory of the Three Kingdoms.
In the first year of wubaoding (266), Wujun led 10 counties. In the first year of Taikang in the Western Jin Dynasty (280), Wujun LED 11 counties. In the third year of song Daming in the southern and Northern Dynasties (459), Wu County led 12 counties. Both Weiting and Kuatang are in Wujun.
In 587, the first year of the Zhengming Dynasty, Chen (later leader) of the southern and Northern Dynasties cut Yangzhou into Wuzhou. Only ting and Kuatang belonged to Wuzhou.
In the ninth year of kaihuang (589), the Sui Dynasty destroyed Chen and changed Wuzhou into Suzhou. Only ting and Kuatang belonged to Suzhou.
In the first year of Daye in Sui Dynasty (605), Suzhou was rebuilt as Wuzhou. In the third year, Wuzhou was changed to Wujun. Weiting and Kuatang belonged to Wujun.
Long live Empress Wu of the Tang Dynasty, the first year of Tongtian (696). Weiting and Kuatang belong to Changzhou county.
From song, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties to 1724, Changzhou county was divided into Changzhou county and Yuanhe county. Wu County, Changzhou county and Yuanhe county are governed by the same city.
In 1911, the revolution of 1911 broke out. In January 1912, Wu County, Changzhou county and Yuanhe county were merged into Wu County. In July, Taihu Lake and Jinghu Lake were merged into Wu County. Weiting and Kuatang belong to Wu County.
In November 1928, counties and cities were divided. In December, Suzhou municipal government was established. In August of the next year, the district and township system will be implemented. Wu County governs 6 cities and 21 townships and is divided into 19 autonomous regions. Weiting district is the Ninth District of Wu County. Chexie District, the 13th District of Wu County, is located to the south of loujiang River in Kuatang area, and Baizhong District, the 15th District of Wu county is located to the north of loujiang river.
In 1931, the urban area of Suzhou was merged into Wu County, and part of the administrative areas were merged. Chexie District, the 13th District of Wu county (later incorporated into Luzhi District, the 10th District), is still to the south of loujiang River in Kuatang area, which belongs to Shenhu township; Weiting District, the 9th District of Wu county is to the north of loujiang river.
In 1934, Wu County readjusted its regional planning. One part of the 15th District of Wu county (later incorporated into the 10th District Luzhi District) was incorporated into the 9th District Weiting District of Wu County. Kuatang is under the jurisdiction of Weiting District, the Ninth District of Wuxian county. The villages in the west of Kuatang and the south of loujiang are divided into the first district of Wu county (sanchengxiang district is merged).
Since July 1941, the Japanese puppets sent out heavy troops to carry out Qingxiang. Five districts and 76 towns in Wuxian county were divided into Qingxiang district. That year, the division of Wu County was adjusted again. The county is divided into 15 districts and 283 townships. Weiting is the Ninth District of Wu County. The countryside around xuanzhu is the third district of Wu County. Kuatang belongs to the Ninth District of Wuxian County, and Gulou was once a special third district.
On August 15, 1945, after the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the Wu County Government of the Kuomintang took over the local power of the county. In September, the names and boundaries of towns and townships in each district returned to the situation before 1937.
In 1947, Wu County was reorganized into districts and townships. The original 13 district offices in Wu County were all abolished, and district offices and instructor offices were set up. Weiting and Kuatang are under the jurisdiction of Yangcheng district. The Department is located in Taiping town.
In February 1948, Weiting Township, Yiling Township, Wenchao Township and xuanzhu Township were merged. Weiting town was still under the jurisdiction of Yangcheng district. Kuatang is still under the jurisdiction of Yangcheng District of Wu County.
From April 27 to 28, 1949, Weiting and Kuatang areas were liberated. On May 1, the people's Government of Wu County was established and stationed in Hushuguan town. The urban area of Wu County was designated as Suzhou city. Weiting and Kuatang are still under the jurisdiction of Yangcheng district.
In March 1950, Weiting district was set up in Wuxian County, with jurisdiction over Weiting town and 15 townships including Tingnan, Yiling, Hunan, Kuatang, xuanzhu, Wusong, Shengpu, Loubei and Loudong. The district office is located in Kuatang town.
In March 1956, some districts and townships in Wu County were unified. The former Weiting district and Luzhi district were merged into Weiting district. The district office is located in Weiting town.
In March 1957, based on market towns, agricultural cooperatives and the merger of the whole Township, the district was removed and the township merged. The Weiting District People's government was abolished. Weiting Township, Yiling Township and Wusong township are part of Weiting township. Kuatang Township and Qiaodong Township and xuanzhu township are part of Kuatang township.
In September 1958, people's communes were established in Weiting and Kuatang respectively, and the system of integrating government and society was implemented. It is under the jurisdiction of Wu County.
On April 8, 1961, with the approval of the State Council, 26 production teams in one town of Kuatang people's commune were assigned to the suburbs of Suzhou.
On January 1, 1964, with the approval of the State Council, the 24 production brigades in Kuatang people's commune were still under the jurisdiction of Wu County, except that Yangjing and Banjing production brigades were assigned to the suburbs of Suzhou.
In November 1964, Weiting town was designated by Weiting people's Commune and upgraded to a town directly under Wu County.
In March 1969, Weiting town was still incorporated into Weiting people's commune under the jurisdiction of Wu County.
In July 1983, the government and society were separated. The people's Government of Weiting township was restored. In August, the people's Government of Kuatang township was restored. It is under the jurisdiction of Wu County.
In September 1985, the township system was implemented. Weiting township was rebuilt into Weiting Town, and Weiting Town People's government was established. The regionalization has not changed.
In July 1993, the township was removed to build a town. Kuatang township was transformed into Kuatang Town, and the people's Government of Kuatang town was established. The regionalization has not changed.
In May 1994, Suzhou Industrial Park was established with the approval of the State Council. Weiting Town, Kuatang town and other five towns are under the direct jurisdiction of Suzhou Municipal People's government and the jurisdiction of Suzhou Industrial Park Management Committee.
On September 5, 2001, with the approval of the people's governments of Jiangsu Province and Suzhou City, two administrative villages, Nibang and Tangzhuang, were put under the jurisdiction of Loufeng town.
On July 22, 2003, with the approval of Jiangsu Province and Suzhou Municipal People's government, Linhu administrative village of Kuatang town was under the jurisdiction of Loufeng town.
On May 15, 2005, with the approval of Jiangsu Provincial People's government, Weiting town and Kuatang town were abolished and merged to form Weiting town in Suzhou Industrial Park.
In November 2012, Suzhou Industrial Park removed three towns and built four streets. Weiting town was abolished and Weiting sub district office was established. It is under the jurisdiction of Suzhou Industrial Park Management Committee.
In 2018, the park will deepen the reform of the administrative system.
