Xinminmen
Xinmin gate, one of the new gates of the Ming Dynasty and the Republic of China, is located between Zhongfu gate and Jinchuan gate. Now the west side of the moat at the west end of Xinmin Road is the only memorial archway gate in Nanjing.
In 1932, the national government opened a gap in the Nanjing city wall, but the city gate was not built due to lack of funds. In the summer of 1934, the city gate was built, and a section of road in the moat was filled. In order to keep the river flowing, a single hole cement bridge with a deck length of about six meters and a span of about four meters was built.
Xinmin gate, Wuding gate and Hanzhong Gate, which were newly built in Nanjing during the period of the Republic of China, belong to the western style archway gate. Xinmin gate is the only one of all archway gates in Nanjing that has been preserved up to now, and is now surrounded by residential buildings in Jianning new village.
After liberation, when the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge was built, the new Daqiao South Road and Xinmin Road were widened one after another, and the old bridge was demolished and rebuilt. In the storm of demolishing the city, Xinmin gate was not demolished because of its reinforced concrete structure. During the cultural revolution, the wall connecting xinminmen was stripped by nearby residents to build houses, and now only the stump section is left.

Historical evolution
In 1932, a gap was opened in the city wall, and the gate was not built due to lack of funds. In the summer of 1934, the gate was built and has been preserved to this day.
During the period of the Republic of China, after the jinchuanmen passage in the north of Nanjing city was rebuilt into a small railway track in Nanjing Province, in order to facilitate the people in the city to get in and out, in 1932 (the 21st year of the Republic of China), the government planned to build a city gate about 1 Li to the west of jinchuanmen. Later, due to lack of funds, it only opened a gap in the Ming city wall, but did not build a city gate. In June 1933 (the 22nd year of the Republic of China), the Nanjing National Government, out of the need of war preparedness in the capital, considered that xinminmen was the main support point of the left wing on the river bank and had a great relationship with the city, so it spent a huge amount of money to build the original gap into a new simple city gate, that is, the existing xinminmen.
In 1934, Xinmin gate was built. At the same time, a section of road in the moat was paved by filling. In order to keep the river flowing, a single hole cement bridge with a deck length of about six meters and a span of about four meters was built.
Xinminmen was inscribed by Ma Chaojun, a political figure of the Republic of China at that time
Xinmin gate, Wuding gate and Hanzhong Gate are all archway gates, and they are also the only archway gates preserved so far in Nanjing.
After liberation, when the Yangtze River Bridge was built, Daqiao South Road was newly opened, Xinmin Road was widened one after another, and the old bridge was demolished and rebuilt.
During the cultural revolution, the wall connecting xinminmen was stripped by nearby residents to build houses, and now only the stump section is left.
Hanzhong Gate, Xinmin gate and Wuding gate were three archway gates in the period of the Republic of China.
