The origin of place names
Ershui Township used to be called "ershui". It is said that the origin of the first place name is in the 58th year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1719 AD). Shi Shibang gathered the refugees to open the field of Dongluo and diverted the Zhuoshui River to irrigate Babao (now known as Babao Yizhen). In the 60th year of Emperor Kangxi, Huang Shiqing dug 15zhuang Zhen (now known as Babao Erzhen). From then on, the two canals flowed through the hinterland of the township, like an eight character shape, and later generations felt its grace Therefore, it was called "ershuizhuang" until the Japanese occupation. After the restoration of Taiwan in the 34th year of the Republic of China, the township was established and named "ershui township".
Development history and evolution
It has been more than 300 years since the settlement of ershui village. According to the general history of Taiwan compiled by historian Lian Yatang, Yan Zheng opened Taiwan in the first year of Tianqi in the Ming Dynasty (1621 AD). His ancestors crossed the sea from southern Fujian to Taiwan, and then moved from Lugang to Banxian (now Changhua). Some people moved here (at that time, ershui belonged to Dongluo society of Banxian) to live with their Aboriginal compatriots It was not dug, so it was only possible to rent land from the mountain people near the foot of the Bagua mountain (now the foot of the mountain road) to engage in farming (irrigation water was taken from the spring water in the mountain stream). At that time, the population was less than 300 people, about 20 households. It was the earliest two Shui Han people.
During the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, babaozhen and shiwuzhuang were successively excavated and completed. Since then, more and more people have moved to ershui to engage in land reclamation. The land along the Bank of babaozhen has gradually been opened up as good farmland, and the number of residents has increased to more than 300, with a population of about 1700. During the period of the Japanese occupation (after the 21st year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu), there were small trolleys that could continue to travel from Jiji to Xizhou. At that time, the station was located in erbazai, and there were passenger and freight cars. Shops of various industries also opened here, and there were about one kilometer long streets. Later, due to the opening of the longitudinal railway, the ershui railway station was set up in the seventh year of the Republic of China, and the public units also began to set up office machines In the 21st year of the Republic of China, a pineapple canning factory was set up behind the ershui theater, which laid the foundation for the economic development of the township. At the same time, due to the transportation hub, ershui became the most prosperous area in the chuoshui river basin at that time.
