Introduction to the island

From a distance, the island is surrounded by green trees and the central white tower stands. It looks very beautiful against the background of blue sea and blue sky. From time to time, egrets fly from the forest, which adds a little poetic flavor.

The origin of the name

There are two versions of baozhuyu's name

First, Baozhu island is shaped like a turtle, so it is also known as "golden Turtle Island". The central part of the island is surrounded by steep cliffs, which looks like jewels inlaid in the sea. On the whole, it looks like "blue waves on the sea, giant turtles carrying pearls", so it is called Baozhu island.

Another saying is that it gets its name because there is a Baozhu tower in the island. This 15 meter high Baozhu tower is located in the middle of the island. It is all built of white granite. The upper end of the main door of the tower is engraved with the character "Baozhu tower" in regular script. It is said that Baozhu pagoda is named after the tomb of Baozhu, wife of Mr. Tan Kah Kee, a patriotic overseas Chinese leader. It's not the case.

According to Tong'an records, "Baozhu island is in front of Gaopu station, and Shayu island in the sea is also in front of Gaopu station. The island is surrounded by rocks, and there is a hill with red soil. The grass on the island is short and looks like a pearl of emerald from afar. It is a natural beauty. Close to the island, there are five mountains that penetrate into the sea, commonly known as "Five Dragons snatching pearls". The origins of the mountains range from Tianzhu Mountain to Gaopu via Guankou, from Tianma mountain to Jimei via Hujing, from baihuyan to Xiting via Houxi, from yannei mountain to Baishi via hengshantou, and from dafaomao mountain to Gangtou via haoshanpu. Its mountain trend, all to Baozhu, known as "Baozhu island.".

The local people also have another way of saying that the two dragons seize the Pearl. It refers to the Jiaolong in the direction of Gaopu and Huli Gaoqi mountains, stretching straight to capture "Baozhu", which is "Baozhu island".

In the autumn of 1153 ad, Zhu Xi of the Southern Song Dynasty, when he was in charge of the book in Tong'an, was touring the Cailin society in anrenli, the western border of Shaoxing County. In the dim light of the sun, he looked at baozhuyu in the sea, and was affected by the charming scenery. He improvised the seven unique "sunset on Zhuyu". The preface of the poem says: "the island flows southward in the Wenjiang River (that is, the Malan Bay) and floats on the river. It is mellow and beautiful, just like a pearl. When the sun rises, it is reflected in the river. The water is as bright as the morning glow The poem says: "since ancient times, Baozhu has been a river, locking off the same silver island. At dawn, the sun shines on the plain, and the sun shines on the hills This is not only the best annotation of the name of baozhuyu, but also the only unique song of baozhuyu for more than 800 years.
