Nanjing earthquake science museum
Nanjing Seismological Science Museum (Nanjing benchmark Seismological Station) is located near Liuhui village between lush trees and beautiful scenery of Zhongshan Mausoleum and Linggu Temple. It is close to Zhongshan Mausoleum amusement park and Zhongshan Memorial Hall. The scenery of water and mountain is integrated with the human landscape. It is not only a big classroom for learning natural science, but also an ideal place for spring outing, autumn outing and holiday leisure.
brief introduction
The predecessor of Nanjing base seismic station is the Beijige seismic station of the Institute of meteorology, Academia Sinica. At present, it has a variety of modern monitoring means, such as seismometry, geomagnetism, geoelectricity, geostress and deformation. Its main task is to quickly report the seismic parameters at home and abroad, participate in the international seismic data exchange, monitor and analyze the changes of various earthquake precursors, and report to the prediction department. After visiting the Seismological Science Museum, you can also enter the observation Hall of the seismological station, visit the observation of the above monitoring means and the world's largest seismograph, and uncover the mystery of earthquake observation.
In January 1990, in order to cooperate with the first science popularization week of Jiangsu Province, Nanjing Seismological Science Museum was organized as Nanjing benchmark Seismostation, which has the longest observation history in China. Over the past few years, with the support of the Seismological Bureau of Jiangsu Province and all walks of life, the exhibition contents of the museum have been constantly enriched, attracting many primary and secondary school students and the public, and becoming an important window for popularizing earthquake science knowledge and publicizing earthquake prevention and disaster reduction work in Nanjing. framework
Part I: earthquake bulletin 1. Introduction of earthquake disasters (including direct earthquake disasters, secondary earthquake disasters, distribution of seismic belts in China, Tangshan earthquake, Hanshen earthquake, Zhangbei earthquake, etc.)
2、 Earthquake prevention and disaster reduction
3、 Introduce the knowledge of shock absorption and emergency response;
4、 The methods of earthquake monitoring and prediction and precursory prediction are introduced;
5、 Introduction to the cause of earthquake;
6、 Some concepts about earthquake;
7、 Application of seismic science
Part II: physical instruments (4 sets)
1. Houfeng seismograph
In the Eastern Han Dynasty (A.D. 132), Zhang Heng created this instrument, which is the first seismometer in the world. The appearance of this instrument means that Zhang Heng has already understood the basic concept of Modern Seismology: earthquake is the ground vibration from a certain direction in the distance.
"It's made of refined copper. Its members are eight feet in diameter. It's like a wine statue with a raised cover." In the middle, there are eight roads beside the capital pillar, and the gate is set. There are eight dragons on the outside, a toad under the first copper pill, and a toad under it If there is a ground movement, Zun Zhenlong machine spit pills, and "toad casting line injury.". The sound of vibration is aroused and the server is aware of it. Although a dragon sends a machine, but seven don't move, to find its direction is to know where the earthquake is. "
Excerpt from biography of Zhang Heng in later Han Dynasty
2. Vicher seismograph
A kind of pendulum mechanical seismograph with inverted pendulum, designed and manufactured by German geophysicist E. Wiechert (1861-1928), has been widely used in seismic stations all over the world. This seismograph was presented to mainland scientists by Taiwan Meteorological Agency after the victory of the Anti Japanese war.
This seismograph weighs 17 tons. At present, except Gottingen, Germany, Nanjing base seismograph is probably unique, and it is still in operation. It is the largest and heaviest seismograph left in the world.
It consists of two parts: observing horizontal directions and observing vertical directions.
Vicher seismograph is a purely mechanical seismograph, which records seismic waves by using an inverted pendulum. Through the mechanical column to the recorder (fumigation record), the seismic waveform is recorded, and the period is 1.4 seconds.
3. DD-1 seismograph
The electronic amplification seismograph developed by Chinese scientists Qin Chaozhi and Shen Mengpei in the 1970s is now widely used in China's seismic stations.
4.513 seismograph
Professor Li shanbang (1902-1980), the founder of Seismology in China, designed and manufactured seismological stations in Beibei, Sichuan Province during the Anti Japanese War, and equipped the first batch of seismological stations in China after liberation.
The development of Science Museum
Nanjing Seismological Science Museum is located in the scenic area of Zhongshan Mausoleum. It is a popular science museum held by Nanjing basic seismological station to publicize earthquake prevention and disaster reduction and popularize earthquake science knowledge. In recent years, with the care and support of leading departments at all levels, Nanjing Seismological Science Museum has developed from only two exhibition rooms in 1989 to a medium-sized one with an area of 700 square meters.
In 2002, Song Ruixiang, the former director of China Seismological Bureau, visited and guided the work, Mr. Song Ruixiang and Ji Yunshi, the former governor of Jiangsu Province, opened the new hall of Nanjing Seismological Science Museum at the 70th anniversary of the founding of Nanjing benchmark seismological station.
