Shoushan, commonly known as Chaishan, is a coastal barrier in the southwest of Kaohsiung City, and is one of the "little mountains in Taiwan". Because of its special geographical location, it has been a military important place since the Ming and Zheng dynasties. There are still Fort ruins on the north gate of Xiongzhen in the south. The mountains are lush with trees and fresh air, and contain primitive limestone terrain. There are many natural caves, rich tropical coral reef forest ecology, macaque nature reserve and Taiwan Endemic Plants konjac and Amorphophallus konjac. The original natural ecology of the mountains is well preserved, which is known as the "lung of Kaohsiung".
There are two main mountaineering entrances. The mountaineering entrance of Longquan Temple is on Gushan No.3 road. From here, the main entrance is beishoushan (Chaishan Natural Park); the other is the mountaineering entrance from Changshou Road (Wanshou Road Branch) beside Shoushan zoo. The main entrance is south Shoushan, such as Zoo and Zhonglie Temple.
