history
Jinghai is a coastal ancient town with a history of nearly one thousand years, which has been selected as one of the first batch of famous historical and cultural towns in Jieyang City. It is located in the east coast of Guangdong Province, bordering on the South China Sea in the northeast, East and south. It looks like a peninsula. According to the navigation center, it has a unique geographical location. It is a coastal defense outpost and garrison fortress. It has always been known as "Dongtu Pingfan" and "Huilai Suoyue". Since the Yuan Dynasty, successive dynasties have set up garrisons here for defense. At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, there were a thousand garrisons. Later, the city was built in the ancient city of Jinghai according to the walls of pictographic mountains, which was known as "Xiangcheng" in history. On both sides of Jinghai Bay, there were north and South fortresses to guard the city. In the Qing Dynasty, ancient Yantai beacon towers were built about five miles northeast of the ancient city, forming a relatively complete system of ancient naval facilities. In ancient times, the shipping of Jinghai was relatively developed. In the 26th year of Kangxi, the customs registration office was set up. In the Guangxu period, the international ship sea light sign was built.
Architecture
Jinghai ancient city wall is a rare stone city wall, which is built on both sides with stones and lime soil. The walls are full of crenels, with holes on them. The top of the city wall is a racetrack, about 4 meters wide. There are four gates in the East, West, South and north of the ancient city. On the gates are carved stone tablets: in the East, it is said that "the sea is better than the general plan"; in the west, it is said that "Jinghai is tranquil"; in the south, it is said that "Huajie is closer to Yu"; in the north, it is said that "laiyao is forever fixed". The four gate buildings are equipped with urn city and tower. At the four corners of the city wall, there are square corner platforms protruding out of the city and higher than the city wall, and the existing southeast and northeast corners. The long cross shaped trunk road bone and oval wall connecting the four gates in the city form the unique pictographic pattern of the ancient city, which is called "Xiangcheng". It fully embodies the Chinese traditional architectural style and planning ideas. It is an ancient building reflecting the architectural style of Ming Dynasty.
The existing ancient city wall is complete and firm. In 2006, it was strengthened and maintained, and a stone inscription was set up to record the rebuilding of the city wall. The stone horizontal plaques of the east gate, the west gate and the north gate are still embedded in the gate. Jinghai ancient city wall is a witness of the architectural style research and historical evolution of the ancient city wall. It has a certain research value on the art and structure of ancient architecture in Ming Dynasty, as well as the research on the pattern of ancient coastal defense system and coastal Anti Japanese history.
