Underground location
Jieyun Temple (also known as Bamianshan) is on the top of the mountain. It is adjacent to Mujiangping of Fenghuang County in the west, Dalong village of Mayang County, and Xiaozhang and Jiefangyan in the northwest. It is the junction of Luxi, Fenghuang and Mayang counties, with an altitude of 884.3 meters. It is the highest peak of Luxi County. Jieyun temple was built during the reign of Emperor Guangwu of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It was presided over by a Toutuo (monk) from the western regions. After the Tang Dynasty, there were more believers. It is said that the main hall was built of copper bricks and tin tiles, which was very prosperous.
Because of the precipitous terrain, the place where soldiers and bandits fought in the past dynasties was destroyed several times by war. Repair after damage, repair after damage, and continue. By the early 1950s, it was a desolate place with broken walls. In 1983, the Miao, Han and Tujia people in the four counties around Badou mountain spontaneously raised money to build a spacious main hall with three big Buddha statues, Guanyin Bodhisattva, the birthday star of Antarctica and the empress of sending off children. Outside the mountain gate, there are spiritual palaces and earth temples. There is also a row of bungalows beside the main hall for monks and pilgrims to live in. Many flowers and trees are planted around the temple for tourists to enjoy. Outside the temple, there is a natural spring well, which flows all the year round and tastes sweet and refreshing.
Cultural environment
Since the continued construction of Yunsi temple, there has been an endless stream of worshippers from four surrounding counties. There are monks in the temple to host the reception, and monks from other places also come here from time to time. Temple fairs are held on February, June, September 18 and 19 of the lunar calendar, during which groups of people burn incense and worship Buddha in all directions. At night, they do Buddhist work and sing Buddhist songs all night long.
It's snowed for three months in winter, cool and mosquito free in summer, and it's a summer resort even though it's hot in the "dog days" and covered with quilts at night. Standing outside the gate of the temple, you can see a lush forest at your feet. In the distance, the mountains rise and fall, like Earth mounds and plowshares, which is very spectacular. If the weather is fine, you can see the sunrise in the morning, just like the rosy red sun rising from the clouds. You can have a panoramic view of the cooking smoke of Jinjiang in Mayang, Baotashan in Chenxi and Xinglongchang village. So that people have a sense of being outside the sky, flying in the clouds, especially excited.
