Cai Lun paper culture museum is located in Longting Town, Yang County, Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province. It is only a wall away from Cai Lun's tomb, the fiefdom and graveyard of Cai Lun, the inventor of papermaking. It is adjacent to Xihan Expressway in the south, 108 National Highway in the north and 300 meters away from the two highways in the north and south.

The foundation of the museum was laid on December 8, 2000 and officially opened to the public on April 5, 2002. The first phase investment of the museum is 2 million yuan, covering an area of more than 10 mu and 3000 square meters of buildings. The private museum invested by Mr. Ma Yongqi is under the management of Hanzhong Yangxian culture and Sports Bureau.

Cai Lun's tomb

Cai Lun's tomb temple, the site of Cai Lun's paper culture museum, was built in the first year of Yuanjia (151) of the Eastern Han Dynasty, covering an area of 23500 square meters. It is the resting place of Cai Lun, the Marquis of the Dragon Pavilion and the inventor of papermaking in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Cai Lun, who served the emperors of Five Dynasties, invented plant fiber paper in the first year of Yuanxing (105). In the first year of the early Yuan Dynasty (114), he was granted the title of Marquis of Longting. In the first year of Jianguang (121), he committed suicide in Longting because he was poisoned by court struggles. Thirty years later, Emperor Huan of the Han Dynasty ordered Cai lunping to be re buried here. From south to north, the central axis of Cailun's ancestral temple area is the mountain gate, the worship hall, the Xian hall, the main hall, the Chuihua gate, the mausoleum, the sleeping hall and the moon pool. On both sides of the central axis, there are bell tower, Drum Tower, music tower, east-west wing room and other buildings. In front of the tomb, there are 9 genealogical steles of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and Cai Lun, as well as many stone statues. There are still 18 ancient cypresses in the tomb area. In history, Li Shi, the emperor of Dezong in Tang Dynasty, stayed in Cailun's tomb to avoid the mutiny between Zhu He and Li huaiguang, and inscribed a plaque for him. During the period of the Republic of China, Yu Youren, a great calligrapher and KMT Yuanlao, once left a tomb of Cai Lun for him

Cailun paper culture museum is located in the west of the cemetery area, covering an area of 4300 square meters. The museum is divided into two parts: the South courtyard and the north courtyard. The South courtyard is the exhibition area of papermaking history and the "paper culture exhibition room", which mainly displays the origin of paper, the development of papermaking technology in the past dynasties, the calligraphy and painting works with paper as the carrier, the literature records about paper in the past dynasties and the spreading process of papermaking technology; the north courtyard is the demonstration area of the technological process of "Caihou paper" invented by Cai Lun before 1900, with a corridor style "imitation Han paper workshop" to display the oldest hand-made paper The whole process of paper reappears the whole process of making "Cai Hou paper" in Han Dynasty.

The main building of the South courtyard is the "Cai Lun paper culture exhibition room" hidden by flowers and trees. The exhibition room is built on the top of Xieshan mountain with five rooms. The exhibition room shows the origin, spread and development of papermaking in the world with full and accurate historical materials, praising the great achievements of Cai Lun, an ancient Chinese scientist, in inventing and promoting papermaking. Another building in the South courtyard is the antique "sibaozhai". There are some hand-made paper made by Cai Lun of Han Dynasty and other stationery in this room for tourists to visit and buy.

Beiyuan is a garden style building, which is the main part of the whole museum. In the hospital, there are several hand-made papermaking workshops in turn, such as raw material storage workshop, retting workshop, steaming workshop, impurity removal workshop, pestle workshop, cutting workshop, papermaking workshop, baking workshop, etc. through the demonstration of the hand-made papermaking artists, the 23 main processes of the ancient "Caihou paper" production are completely reproduced. The audience can also interact with the artists by themselves. They can dress in Chinese costume and operate the process. They can experience the feeling and fun of handmade papermaking and the creativity of the ancients.
