Liujiang geoscience Museum
Liujiang geoscience museum is located in shangzhuangtuo village, Funing County, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. It is composed of five units: Department of Geosciences, Department of geological relics of Liujiang Basin, Department of rock and mineral fossils, and Department of landscape of Qinhuangdao National Geopark. By means of plates, videos, models, simulation scenes and physical specimens, the museum reveals the extremely valuable geological heritage resources of the universe and solar system, earth structure, geological processes, biological evolution, sea and land changes in Liujiang Basin and the unique geological natural landscape of Qinhuangdao.
Qinhuangdao is famous for its magnificent Great Wall and beautiful Blue Sea Sands. Few people know that there is a moving geological treasure buried here - the Liujiang Basin, which has undergone tremendous changes for 2.5 billion years. On the occasion of the 38th "International Museum Day" on May 18, the Qinhuangdao Liujiang geoscience Museum of Hebei Department of land and resources was completed and opened. This magical "geoscience encyclopedia" finally showed its mysterious appearance to the world.
Liujiang Basin geological relics National Nature Reserve is located in shimenzhai Town, Funing County, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. It is rich in geological resources. In a small area of 240 square kilometers, it contains 24 formation level stratigraphic units, six major crustal unconformities and a variety of typical geological structures and landforms formed in different geological historical periods in northern China for more than 2 billion years The three rock types are well exposed, the sedimentary strata are well developed, the bottom unit boundaries are clear, and the fossils are rich and diverse.
According to Diao Limin, head of the Liujiang Basin geological relics National Nature Reserve Management Office, in the past 2.5 billion years, the Liujiang Basin has experienced four sea land changes and four mountain land changes, preserving the geological relics left by the Archean, Proterozoic, Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic geological eras, "a small area, five generations together", which is from the east to the Korean Peninsula, and from the west to the East Jiayuguan is the only geological relic with the most complete geological changes in China. It is also known as "natural laboratory" and "natural museum" of geoscience research. It is also the largest field practice base of geoscience in China. Especially after the founding of new China, it has been an important practice base in northern China for more than 50 years. Every year, more than 80 universities and technical secondary schools, 15000 teachers and students carry out field geological practice here. In 1999, "Qinhuangdao Liujiang Basin geological relics National Nature Reserve" was officially established, and in 2002, it was officially approved as one of the second batch of 33 Geoparks in China.
In order to popularize the popular science knowledge of Geosciences, display the rich geological relics of Liujiang Basin, help the teachers and students who go to practice to carry out professional research, and meet the needs of field practice and popular science activities of Geosciences, Liujiang Basin Nature Reserve started planning to build a geoscience Museum in 2006. With an investment of 64 million yuan, the construction of the museum was officially started in 2009, with a construction area of 8122 square meters. It is composed of five units: the Department of Geosciences, the geological relics department of Liujiang Basin, the specimen hall of rock and mineral fossils, the Landscape Department of Qinhuangdao National Geopark, and the multimedia lecture hall. By means of plates, videos, models, simulation scenes and physical specimens, this paper reveals the universe and solar system, earth structure, geological process, biological evolution, sea and land changes of Liujiang Basin, its precious geological heritage resources and the beautiful geological and natural landscape of Qinhuangdao, and displays the contents of Geosciences, Liujiang treasures, appreciation of rock and mineral fossil specimens, and the geological scenery of Qinhuangdao Content, rich in popular science education and geoscience knowledge propaganda and education function, is a geoscience Museum integrating science, knowledge, appreciation and interest. All the rock specimens on display in the museum are collected from the Liujiang Basin. It looks like a common stone, but they are all composed of the code of geological evolution of millions of years.
