development history
Duku highway, built in the 1970s, is a war preparedness national defense highway ordered by the State Council and the Central Military Commission. Duku highway starts from Dushanzi in the north and ends at Kuche in the south. The total length of this section is 562.25 km, which was built by a PLA engineering department in 10 years.
This highway connecting the north and south of Xinjiang, across the mountains, through the mountains and valleys, connects many ethnic minority areas. With its connection, the distance between North and South Xinjiang has been shortened by nearly half from the original 1000 kilometers, which can be called a monument in the history of highway construction in China. At that time, tens of thousands of officers and soldiers fought for 10 years to build the road, of which 168 gave their precious lives.
In 1984, the people's Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and the Urumqi military region built a monument to the martyrs of the Chinese people's Liberation Army (the predecessor of the second traffic corps of the people's Armed Police) who bravely dedicated themselves to the construction of the Tianshan Duku highway. Since June 10, 2006, the Department of communications of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the second armed police traffic corps and the governments of Ili Prefecture and nilek county have raised a total of 1.5 million yuan to comprehensively repair the monument, which has been eroded by wind and rain. On the basis of this monument, a martyr's cemetery of dusu highway in Tianshan Mountain has been built nearby.
