Hunan Geological Museum

Hunan Geological Museum was founded in 1958 and opened to the public in 1980. At the entrance of the mineral resources exhibition hall of the museum is a man-made limestone cave, in which there is a large sand table with mineral distribution in Hunan Province, marked with more than 250 unique mineral producing areas of tungsten, antimony, lead, zinc, mercury, phosphorus, arsenic, kaolin, sepiolite, etc. Several unique quartz pyrite, stibnite and gypsum caves represent the growth and development of minerals in nature. The exhibition hall of earth history displays a large rotating model of the earth. Other exhibition halls display more than 800 specimens of paleontology, such as large trilobites, 1-meter-long rectangles, hibiscus, dinosaur egg fossils, dinosaur footprints, etc. There are more than 1000 mineral and rock samples, such as diamond, stibnite cluster, quartz pyrite cluster, realgar and vitelline cluster, galena barite cluster, calcite cluster, cinnabar, wolframite, scheelite, fluorite, gypsum and other mineral crystals, as well as the world's first new minerals found in China, such as xianghuashi crystal and various gems and jades. The origin of life is an unsolved mystery. Through the huge spiral diagram of nature and life evolution, we can clearly reveal the evolution process of life on earth from Paleozoic, Mesozoic to Cenozoic. The hall shows the types, characteristics, distribution, quantity, advantages and disadvantages of mineral resources, land resources and water resources in Hunan Province. This paper shows the history and current situation of the development and utilization of land and resources in Hunan Province, the top minerals and their distribution in China, several major mines and four geological exploration units in Hunan Province, and describes the development of Surveying and mapping technology and the current situation of land resources distribution and utilization in Hunan Province through a large number of Surveying and mapping objects.

Mineral crystal Hall

There are nearly a thousand mineral crystals on display here. They are of various shapes, dazzling and exquisite. These rare treasures are mainly from several major mines in Hunan, several major mining provinces in China and several major mining countries abroad.
