Mount moxingling
Mount Davis is a small hill at the westernmost end of Hong Kong Island, 260 meters (853 feet) above sea level. It is located to the south of Kennedy Town and also represents the western end of Hong Kong Island. Mosingling is adjacent to Qingzhou and xiaoqingzhou, and they are separated by sulfur Strait. Mount Davis is named after Davis, the second governor of Hong Kong. You can enjoy the beautiful sea view on the west side of Hong Kong Island in mosingling. In addition to seeing the big and small Qingzhou islands across the sulphur channel, you can also see the outlying islands such as Lamma Island, Cheung Chau, Lantau Island, Ping Chau, Chow Kung island and Chiao Yi Chau. You can also see the Tsing Ma Bridge from a distance. It is also a good place to watch the afterglow of the sunset.
Mosingling is a very special place in Hong Kong, because the coastal area is full of rich people's houses: Zhou Qibang, Zhao Shizeng and many other aristocratic children's houses are here. However, the "White House" used to be used as a detention center near the Regal's mansion. The hillside used to be a cottage area (a demolished citizen's Village), and the coastal area at the foot of the mountain used to be a large number of wooden house areas (such as Haipang village, Fuyuan village, etc.), but it was also demolished before the demolition of the citizen's village. At present, a cave has been dug in the original site to make the harbor Island West transfer station. At the top of the mountain, there are police communication station, Jockey Club Youth Hostel and relics left over from the Second World War.
history
Since the 1900's, mosingling has become a military stronghold for British troops stationed in Hong Kong. British troops have successively built mosingling fortress and Silver Jubilee fort, which were used in the defense of Hong Kong, but were abandoned after Chongguang.
After the Nationalist government moved to Taiwan in 1949, some veterans and their families who did not want or were not allowed to move to Taiwan were resettled in the citizen village of moxingling. However, in early 1950, a group of left-wing students went to the refugee area of moxingling to make provocations against the veterans, which eventually turned into bloody conflicts. As a result, the British Hong Kong government moved these veterans and their families to tiaojingling in June 1950.
According to Hong Kong media reports, after Ho's death, he will be buried in the family's Zhaoyuan cemetery at No. 1, moxingling, which is the place where many descendants of Ho's family will sleep. Most of the descendants of Ho's family, including he Hongzhang, the eldest grandson of Ho, he Chaoying, the eldest daughter of Ho, Ma Jiaxing, the son of Ho Wanqi, Ho's sister-in-law, and Mo he WANYING, Ho's sister-in-law, are buried here.
Original name
The English name of Mount Davis is in memory of Davis, the second governor of Hong Kong. There is no definite answer to the origin of the Chinese name for the time being. It is more likely that some syllables of its English name, namely Mt. Davis' initial and final two syllables, will become Mt. Davis. Another possibility is that although the mountain is not very high, if it stands high in the middle of the night, it really has the feeling of "fighting against the mountain". Another possibility is that the higher western mountain behind it is also called "Motianling", so the lower mountain next to it is called "mosingling".
Veteran in exile
In 1949, the KMT, which was defeated in the civil war between the KMT and the Communist Party of China, some of its military refugees flocked to Hong Kong. Some of them built huts in Kennedy Town's chime swimming shed and Jiahui terrace, relying on begging or Donghua relief for a living, with more than 3000 people. In 1950, the government resettled them in Dolly's barracks and the old machine gun fortress in the road area of mosingling. Although they were humble, they could still live. Donghua continued to provide food for the refugees. However, in the early 1950's, a group of left-wing students went to the mosingling refugee area to provoke the veterans, which eventually turned into bloody conflict. As a result, in June 1950, the Hong Kong government moved these Kuomintang refugees to tiaojingling in the southeast of the new territories.
