Jiaxian Bridge
Jiaxian bridge is a single hole stone bridge. It crosses nanzhashi River in Xinshi town in east-west direction, also known as Rihui bridge, commonly known as lime bridge. The bridge is 17 meters long, 2.8 meters wide at the top, 6.7 meters long and 4.50 meters high.
Jiaxian bridge was built before the Tang Dynasty, so it is the intersection of shenjiatan (commonly known as chenjiatan) and nanzhashi river. In ancient times, there were immortals bathing in shenjiatan and driving the bridge, so it is called "Jiaxian bridge". During the Zhengde period of the Ming Dynasty, the people of the town raised money to rebuild the bridge, which was renamed "Rihui bridge" with the meaning of "Xuri Shenghui". It is the oldest existing stone bridge in Xinshi.
The shape of Jiaxian bridge is simple and simple. The arch ring stones are crisscross and arranged in combination. The arch ring shape is like a half moon. The piers are solid. The ring stones are made of granite. The abutment is made of bluestone and Wukang purple stone. There are two pairs of tie stones extending out of the bridge ears. There are purple stone columns between them. There is a pair of original bridge couplets on the columns. However, due to the long age and serious weathering process, the handwriting has been lost. The stone lion on the top of the bridge has a unique shape. There is a deep charm of Chinese ape man between the eyebrows. If you study the stone lions on the ancient bridges around you, you can see that this bridge has a long history. On both sides, there are 17 step drum stones with exquisite craftsmanship, which are the most powerful stone carvings of Tang and Song Dynasties, and also the representative of "Shijing bridge" in the south of the Yangtze River.
Cao's house (commonly known as Cao's garden) is one of the top ten ancient houses in Xinshi. The owner Cao Shengshi is the nephew of Cao Zhenyong, the military aircraft Minister of Qingdao Guangda. His daughter-in-law Xu Yunhua is the cousin of Xu Zihua, a social activist in the late Qing Dynasty. From 1906 to 1907, Xu Zihua, Qiu Jin, Liu Yazi, Xu Xilin and other anti Qing elites came to Cao's house in Xinshi, during which they also boarded the Xianqiao to see the light of the bridge.
