Five side walls

The five side wall fortresses refer to the fortresses built on the great wall of Ming Dynasty in Datong. Town side Fort

Zhenbianbao is located in Dayi village of Dashi town. The plan of the city is rectangular, 312 meters long from north to south, 215 meters wide from east to west, and 1054 meters long. The city covers an area of 67080 square meters. The city wall is 5 meters high, 5.6 meters wide at the base and 3.3 meters wide at the top. It is built with stones inside and outside and rammed with loess. Each corner of the city wall has a square corner platform. There is a gate in the middle of the south wall, 5 meters wide, with the word "zhenbianbao" engraved on the forehead. There is a horse face in the north of the west wall. The gate is destroyed. The northern wall is well preserved. Most of the East, South and west walls collapsed, and some of them did not exist.

Zhenchuan Fort

Zhenchuan fort, formerly known as shuiduan, is under the jurisdiction of beidong Road, North Hebei Road, Datong town. According to San Yun Chou Zu Kao, it was built in 1539, the 18th year of Jiajing, and built in 1582, the 10th year of Wanli. Castle week "two miles and five minutes, four feet and one foot high.". In the Ming Dynasty, garrison was set up here to guard the Great Wall "20 Li, 28 side piers and three Huolu piers".

Zhenchuankou is 30 Li to Gaoyang town's bianbao (one of the five side walls) in the East, 20 Li to hongcibao in the west, 50 Li to Datong in the South and 5 Li to the side wall in the north. This castle was seriously damaged. All the brickwork was demolished. The West and south sides of the rammed earth city wall have been destroyed to flat ground. The east side wall was half destroyed, and only the north side wall remained.

Hongcibao

Hongcibao, also known as Hongsibao, is under the jurisdiction of beidong Road, North Hebei Road, Datong town. According to San Yun Chou Zu Kao, it was built in 1539 (the 18th year of Jiajing) and in 1574 (the 2nd year of Wanli). Hongci Fort week "four Li 32 steps, three Zhang six feet high.". In the Ming Dynasty, garrison was set up here to guard the Great Wall "19 Li, 26 side piers and 8 Huolu piers". The strategic position of this fort is very important, which is directly related to the safety of Datong town.

Hongcibaokou is 20 Li to Zhenchuanbao in the East, 20 Li to zhenlubao in the west, 60 Li to Datong in the South and 20 Li to Qiangbao in the north. The brickwork of this castle has been demolished for a long time, and the remnant wall has also been seriously damaged. The south side wall of the castle has been basically flat, and the south gate, which was originally a brick arched gate, has now become a notch.

Zhenlu Fort

Zhenlubao, formerly known as Hucun, is under the jurisdiction of beidong Road, North Hebei Road, Datong town. According to historical records, "Zhenlu fort was built in 1539, the 18th year of Jiajing, and was bricked in 1586, the 14th year of Wanli. On Tuesday, there were four battles. "The perimeter of this city is 250 meters square. The wall is high and thick, and it was very grand at that time. It is similar to the historical records. In the west of the city, there is an urn. At the beginning of Zhenlu fort, "a garrison officer was set up. There were 245 officers and soldiers, 47 horses and mules. boundless. There are only seven fire road piers. "Although the terrain of the five fortresses of Datong is flat and there is no danger to rely on, if the enemy invades and refuses to resist the wall, the unexpected disaster will extend to this fortress and endanger Yungang and Datong. Therefore, the strategic position of Zhenlu fort is extremely important.

Zhenhebao

Zhenhebao, formerly known as Shahe, is under the jurisdiction of beidong Road, North Hebei Road, Datong town. According to historical records, "Zhenlu fort was set up in 1539, the 18th year of Jiajing, and wrapped with bricks in 1586, the 14th year of Wanli. The five side wall fortresses (Zhenbian, Zhenchuan, Hongci, Zhenlu, Zhenhe) are the important strategic and traffic routes leading to the inland of Inner Mongolia Plateau, and are the division of agricultural and nomadic nationalities. Ming Dynasty was always invaded by the strong nomads in the north. In order to deal with the residual forces of the descendants of Yuan Dynasty and the rise of Nuzhen tribe in the northeast, the rulers of Ming Dynasty tried their best to strengthen the construction of border defense.

Zhenhe fort is 25 Li to Zhenlu fort in the East, 20 Li to Po Lu fort in the west, 40 Li to Datong in the South and 40 Li to Juqiang fort in the north. Zhenhepu is located on the right side of the provincial road from Yungang Grottoes to Jining highway in Inner Mongolia, to the west of Yuhe River, to the east of zhenlubu 20 Dun, 25 li away from zhenlubu, to the west of Sandun, Tugou, Sidun and Qidun, to the north of Luocun West Mountain, and to the south of Leigong Mountain. The castle is 2 li and 3 fen in circumference, 2 Zhang and 5 feet in height and 2 Zhang and 5 feet in thickness. The Loess inside the wall is compacted.
