Yanzhi lake is located in the southwest of Yuanjiang City, 19 kilometers away from the urban area and 25 kilometers away from Yiyang City. It is said that when Xi Shi went boating with Fan Li on the five lakes, she saw the beautiful scenery here and bathed happily.

It is said that the origin of Yanzhi lake is that when Fan Li and Xi Shi went boating in the lake, a jade man dressed up in the lake and slipped off the rouge

Yanzhi lake is like a huge palm with five fingers open. It has a perennial water area of more than 1430 hectares and a drainage area of more than 80 square kilometers. Its water quality has reached the national grade I standard. The hills around the lake are lush with oranges, peaches, teas and bamboos. The red coastline of the lake and the green mountains and waters are in contrast. Yanzhi lake has been listed as one of the top ten water landscape areas in the Tenth Five Year Plan of Hunan tourism industry, and is a national AA scenic spot. The main scenic spots are home of educated youth, beach swimming pool, farmhouse, Ergui Baimei and shaiwaping. More than 7 million yuan was invested by Hunan Youhua group to build the home of the educated youth, which is modeled on the rural residence where the educated youth lived when they were transferred to Yuanjiang in the 1970s. More than 100 exhibits in the supplies exhibition room of the educated youth truly represent the life of the educated youth in those years.
