brief introduction
Praise of Haotian Temple
Haoyu mansion into the sky,
Ethereal and free, there are gods.
To be merciful and benevolent to all living beings,
Bodhisattva is boundless.
Before the 1970s, there were five steles in the temple. The earliest is the stele of Haotian temple built in the second year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty. The stele says, "Haotian temple was built in an unknown year. It's a temple for donation." All the bricks were carried by sheep to the mountain. And served as the abbot. This is recorded in the tablet. In the southwest of Haotian temple, to the west of Shuitou village, to the north, and to the east of Jinquan Sigou, there was Jinquan temple in ancient times, but there are still relics (it is said that Jinquan temple was earlier than Haotian Temple). In the past, Haotian mountain was the business Avenue, from the Castanopsis mountain to Hedian, Kangdian, Baijiu city (45 Li to the east of Datong City, half Li to the southwest of Kangdian) to Datong.
As for Haotian temple, the date of its first construction remains to be discussed. According to the Ming Dynasty Wanli stele records, the temple was built for the prisoners who were sent to the place. That is contrary to the statement of the Northern Wei Dynasty. Because most of the soldiers go to remote places, it's impossible to go to the capital! Some people say it should be Liao Dynasty architecture.
present situation
Haotian mountain is one of the peaks of the volcanic group. It is a Neolithic site. It was built in the Northern Wei Dynasty, earlier than Huayan Temple in Datong. Now it is located one kilometer north of Yunzhou district. On the top of the mountain, there is a peculiar building, towering into the sky, connecting the sky. It is suspected that it is a fairyland Pavilion, but it is a beautiful scenery in the world. In the drizzle, it is dreamy and colorful; in the snow, the white crane sleeps; in the morning, it is shining; in the evening, it is quiet and solemn. This is the famous tourist attraction in northern Shanxi Haotian temple. Today's temple is rebuilt on the original site. The temple is exquisitely built and has a strong Buddhist flavor. Every Buddhist Festival, visitors are weaving and incense is flourishing. There is a popular saying among the people in Yunzhou District: "Haotian temple is two and a half fingers away from the sky, so it's hard for a swallow sparrow to fly over. "This is a bit exaggerated, but it also tells us the height of Haotian temple. Haotian temple is built on the uplift crater of Datong Basin. It looks really spectacular. Haotian temple is the first one built on the crater. This is undoubtedly a pioneering work in the history of Chinese temple architecture. It is a wonder on the crater.
