Fenyang Palace Site
Fenyang Palace site is located in a flat open land on the top of Nanbin mountain, 2000 meters north of Maying village, Yuzhuang Township, Ningwu County, Shanxi Province.
Fenyang Palace site, covering an area of about 16000 square meters, is 400 meters long from east to west and from north to south, which is divided into inner city and outer city.
The Fenyang Palace site was approved by the State Council of the people's Republic of China on October 7, 2019 and announced as the eighth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
Historical evolution
In the second year of Daye (607) of the Sui Dynasty, Yang Guang, the emperor of the Sui Dynasty, ordered the construction of a palace near the ancient city of Ninghua in the upper reaches of the Fenhe River, which was originally named "Suiyang Palace", and later developed into a palace city on the basis of the palace, known as "Fenyang Palace".
In the third year of Daye reign of Sui Dynasty (608), Emperor Yang of Sui Dynasty ordered the construction of another Fenyang Palace on the Bank of Tianchi Lake, which was called "Shangxing Palace" and "Xiaxia Palace" together with Ninghua Fenyang palace.
In 617, the 12th year of Daye reign of Sui Dynasty, Liu Wuzhou of Shuozhou rebelled and first gained Yanmen county. Taking advantage of the victory, he attacked Loufan County, captured Fenyang palace, plundered 3000 maids and burned the palace city.

In the Tang Dynasty, Li Tang Dynasty set up a pastoral supervisor in Tianchi, where sheep herded horses and Fenyang palace became ruins.
In 1994, in order to develop tourism resources, Ningwu County People's Government rebuilt Haiying temple, a subsidiary building of Fenyang palace, on the hillside southwest of Tianchi.
Site features
Fenyang Palace site is a rectangle, covering an area of about 16000 square meters, 400 meters long from east to west, north to south, divided into inner city and outer city. The building base in the middle of the site is 86 meters long from north to South and 70 meters wide from east to west. The remaining wall base is about 1-2 meters high and 2-3 meters wide.
Cultural relics protection
In 2004, Fenyang Palace site was announced as a key cultural relic protection unit by Shanxi Provincial People's government.
On October 7, 2019, Fenyang Palace site was approved by the State Council of the people's Republic of China and announced as the eighth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
