The gate is built between lion mountain and Phoenix Mountain. In closing, the city walls on both sides are linked with mountains. The wall is 5.3 meters high, 43.2 meters long and 8.23 meters thick. It is built with bluestone inside and outside and filled with earth in the middle. There are two arches in front and back of the gate. The gate is 4 meters high and the top is exposed in the middle. On the forehead of the inside and outside of the gate, there are three big characters "Gu Yan Guan" inscribed on Shangchang, the magistrate of Xing'an County in the first year of Xianfeng (1851 A.D.).
Due to the dangerous situation of strict customs, it has always been "the cause of the war in the south of the five ridges". For example, in the first year of song Jingyan (1276 AD), song General Ma Ji led 3000 soldiers to garrison here to block the troops going down to the Yuan Dynasty; in the fourth year of Yongli (1650 AD), Zhang Tong opened the governor's troops to defend the strict pass and resist the southward advance of the Qing army; in the ninth year of Shunzhi (1652 AD), Li Dingguo, the general of the peasant army, defeated Kong Youde, king of Dingnan. Yanguan is also an important traffic road between the north and the south. Celebrities of past dynasties passed by here and wrote many poems, such as Li Shizhong, Zhang Xiaoxiang, Fan Chengda, Liu Kezhuang and so on. There is a solitary stone in the field of Guanbei, which is said to be Yang Bajie's stone of Shangma in Song Dynasty. There are many poems carved by predecessors on it. On the cliffs of guanxi, there are more than ten cliffs for tourists since Song and Ming Dynasties. In particular, Cheng Lin, the prefect of Guizhou in the fifth year of Zhenghe of the Song Dynasty (AD 1115), and Xin Ru, the Tixing Fang of Guangxi in the ninth year of Jiading (AD 1216), wrote the title list of "Yan Guan", which has a huge shape and simple calligraphy. It is a very precious work of art.
