Meicheng town is a millennium old town under the jurisdiction of Jiande City, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is the seat of Guyan Prefecture, located in the east of Jiande City. The town covers an area of 154.9 square kilometers (2017) and has a population of 42475 (2017). It governs 13 administrative villages and 5 communities.

"Meicheng" is named because the battlements along the river of the ancient Yanzhou City wall are built in the shape of plum blossom. It is known as "two and a half plum blossoms in the world, one in Beijing, one in Nanjing and one in Yanzhou".

In October 2019, Meicheng town was selected as one of the "Top 1000 towns with comprehensive strength in China in 2019".

On July 29, 2020, it will be included in the National Health township (county) naming list of 2017-2019 cycle.

Historical evolution

The name of "Meicheng" came from the plum blossom shaped section of the ancient city wall near the river. Jiande county was established in the fourth year of Wu Huangwu in the Three Kingdoms (225), and Meicheng was the county government. In the first year of Shengong of Tang Dynasty (697), the government of muzhou moved from Chishan (now Chun'an) to Meicheng. From then on until 1959, Meicheng was the seat of the prefecture, government, road and special office. Meicheng town was established in 1939, Meicheng commune was established in 1958, and Meicheng town was restored in July 1959. In April 1992, Qianhe Township and Nanfeng Township merged into Meicheng town. In 2002, it has jurisdiction over 20 administrative villages and 10 residential areas, with a population of 36896, including 18572 agricultural population. In 2003, the population was 41400. It covers an area of 104 square kilometers. In 2007, Shilibu village of Meicheng town was put under the jurisdiction of yangcunqiao town. After the adjustment, Meicheng town governs 5 communities, 1 residential area and 25 administrative villages. Meicheng town is located in the east of Jiande City, where Fuchun River, Xin'anjiang River and Lanjiang River meet. Wulong mountain lies in the north and Sanjiangkou in the south, with beautiful scenery, long history and outstanding people.

Economic overview

Meicheng town is an important economic town in Jiande City. It has been successively rated as one of the top 1000 towns in China, the first batch of central towns in Zhejiang Province, green small towns in Zhejiang Province, health towns in Zhejiang Province, advanced towns in social security in Zhejiang Province and educational towns in Zhejiang Province. Cultural background

Meicheng town is located at the confluence of Fuchun River, Xin'anjiang River and Lanjiang River, with Wulong mountain in the north, Sanjiangkou in the south, beautiful scenery, long history and outstanding people. It has a history of more than 1700 years since the county was established in the fourth year of Wu Huangwu (225 A.D.) in the Three Kingdoms period. It has been the seat of muzhou, Yanzhou and Jiande county with profound historical and cultural accumulation. The famous Chinese classical novels such as outlaws of the marsh, scholars, officialdom and Jin Ping Mei have described the human landscape of Meicheng. Du Mu, Fan Zhongyan, Lu You and Liu Changqing all served as officials here. Poets Xie Lingyun, Li Bai and Meng Haoran all visited Meicheng. All the sages are intoxicated with the landscape of Meicheng, leaving a masterpiece of poetry and a precious cultural heritage for Meicheng.

Infrastructure

The infrastructure construction of Meicheng town is also constantly advancing. The construction of Meicheng new town has been started in an all-round way. The main body of the first bid section of Meicheng dam has been basically completed. The construction of the green belt at the west entrance of the city, the road renovation project of Yuquan Temple Scenic Area, the construction of Nanfeng Riverside Park, and the "two towers and one bridge" lighting project have continuously improved the functions of the town. With the construction of Hangzhou Huanghua high speed railway and Linjin expressway, the location advantage of Meicheng is more prominent. A broader development stage and a more beautiful living environment are presented in front of Meicheng, which also provides a greater driving force for the sustainable development of Meicheng.

In January 2020, Meicheng town was selected into the list of beautiful town construction models in Zhejiang Province in 2020.

In 2006, Meicheng invested 4.42 million yuan in science, education, culture, health and other social undertakings. The coverage of the new rural cooperative medical system was further expanded, with 90.26% of the rural residents participating in the insurance; 50 new low-income families were added, with a total payment of 320000 yuan; the centralized support rate of urban "three no" personnel and rural households with five guarantees was more than 85%. It was awarded as "advanced unit of conscription in Hangzhou" and "demonstration town of comprehensive management of social security in Hangzhou" in 2006.

Wulong mountain is located at the north gate of Meicheng town in Guyan Prefecture. It stretches 50-60 Li from east to west, with an altitude of more than 800 meters. It is connected by about 7 Li, with the highest altitude of 916.6 meters.

Wulong mountain, the town of Yanzhou Prefecture, is located in the east of Jiande City, Zhejiang Province, to the north of Meicheng, an ancient town. It is located on the North Bank of the intersection of Xin'an River, Fuchun River and Lanjiang River. It is named for its black rocks, towering mountains and winding like dragons.

The main body of Wulong mountain is fan-shaped, and the upper peak is 909 meters above sea level. It was formed in the late Yanshanian movement and condensed by acid magma after mountain fire eruption. In the early stage, it was in the shallow sea, so there were some aquatic organisms such as shells on the top of the mountain. Because the mountain is a fault formed by volcanic eruption, with a relative height of more than 800 meters, it almost rises from the ground and faces the river bank. It is very majestic and has become a symbol of Yanzhou.

Wulong mountain is also known as Wushan. "Jianjiang water" in Volume IV of shuijingzhu: "the northeast of Zhejiang Province passes through the south of Jiande county. There is Wushan in the north of the county. " "Wushan" here refers to Wulong mountain, also known as Wushi mountain. It is also recorded in volume 9 o "wushiguan" in "the summary of Fang Yu's reading history": (in Yanzhou) fifteen miles to the east of Fu, named after Wushishan. " It is also called ren'an mountain. According to the records of Yanzhou tujing, at the beginning of Xuanhe period in Song Dynasty, Chen Liao suggested that the dragon was the king's image, and those with the word "dragon" should avoid it. In addition to the chaos of entering wax, he said again that the thieves were stealing, and the land was called Shu Hui. He begged for the name of loyalty and obedience to calm one side.
