The museum was designated as a municipal cultural relic protection unit on March 19, 1992. After Chongqing was directly under the central government, it was announced as a municipal (equivalent to provincial) cultural relic protection unit on September 7, 2000. It has played a role of bridge and link in the diplomatic and non-governmental exchanges between Chongqing and South Korea. In 1993, it was officially opened to the public after the restoration project. Over the past 10 years, the site has received more than one million South Korean visitors. In 2001, the "old site" management office and the Korea independence memorial hall were renovated. It shows the activities of the provisional government of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai. Now, as the temple of South Korea's independence movement and the symbol of China and South Korea's joint resistance against Japan, it is attracting more and more visitors from home and abroad.
