Gaofeng mountain road view
Gaofeng mountain in Pengxi county is located 20 kilometers north of Pengxi County, Sichuan Province. In the early Tang Dynasty, temples were built and later changed to Taoist temples. In 2013, Gaofeng mountain ancient buildings became the national key cultural relics protection units.
Historical evolution
Gaofeng mountain is also known as Gaofeng mountain because of its beautiful peaks and its Phoenix like shape. Guangjiao temple, also known as Gaofeng temple, was originally built in the early Tang Dynasty.
In the late Qing Dynasty, Wang Yuanqing, a Quanzhen Taoist, lived here with his apprentice fan Ming and Qing (road name Yunfeng). In October 1932, Li weiru, commander of the first route of the 29th army of the National Revolutionary Army, offered to sell the public property of Xichong and Pengxi counties, and the temple industry was also on the list. So Wang and fan went out to raise money and bid for the temple to become a Taoist temple. From 1932 to 1947, fan Ming and Qing raised money to build and expand the Taoist temple in this mountain twice. At that time, there were more than 10 Lingguan hall, Sanqing hall, Yuhuang hall, zushi hall, Yaowang hall, Sanjiao hall and more than 200 houses. According to the four trigrams of Gan, Kun, Kan and Li in the eight trigrams, the whole architectural pattern has four doors, namely, East, West, South and North, which are simple and natural with unique style.
There are more than 300 plaques and couplets inscribed by important celebrities from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China. In its heyday, there were more than 400 Taoist residents, helpers and managers.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, the government attached great importance to Gaofengshan Taoist temple and issued many documents to protect it. Although it was damaged during the cultural revolution, the Taoist temple still has more than 230 houses, covering an area of more than 4800 square meters. There are more than 5000 scenic trees and more than 1300 fruit trees.
The temple was reopened in 1986 with the approval of Suining Municipal People's government as a place for Taoist activities, and was managed by the Taoist community.
