historical origin
The Confucian temple in Urumqi is the only well preserved temple complex of Qing Dynasty style in Xinjiang. It stands by the street, with poplar trees in front of the door. The Confucian temple covers an area of 2800 square meters, with a construction area of 1000 square meters. It is in the style of traditional Chinese architecture. It has three rooms wide and two rooms deep. It has mountain gate, front hall, main hall, East and West Chamber of Liangzu, bell tower and Drum Tower. It has ornamental value.
Cultural relics protection
The Confucian temple in Urumqi was originally a God's temple, which was built in 1922. It was dedicated to God and enjoyed Confucius. In 1945, it was rebuilt as Confucius Dacheng hall.
In 1979, it was announced as a municipal cultural relics protection unit.
In 1765-1767, when the Qing government expanded Urumqi City, the Confucian temple was built on Wenhua Road (formerly known as Confucian Temple Lane). After the founding of Xinjiang Province in 1884, Zhaozhong temple was built on houqianjin road in memory of the soldiers who recovered Xinjiang. After the Republic of China, it was renamed Zhonglie temple. Later, the wooden Confucius tablet in the original temple was moved here, and the Zhonglie Temple became the later Confucian temple. Some people also called it Wanshou Palace, wenshou palace, Wenchang palace, Wenchang hall, Wenchang temple, Wenchang temple, etc. At that time, the Confucian temple not only offered sacrifices to Confucius, but also offered sacrifices to the God "Wenchang emperor" who was in charge of fame and wealth in Taoism.

Both heaven and Confucius were sacrificed. After Sheng Shicai came to power in 1933, he abolished offering sacrifices to heaven and Confucius.
