Dunhou Hall

Dunhou hall is located in Shuangyu village, Lingguan Town, Qidong County, Hengyang City, Hunan Province. It was built by Fu mingpeng, a student of Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty. It has a history of more than 200 years. Dunhou hall is close to mountains and rivers. When it was first built, it had a layout of "two halls and ten horizons", covering a total area of more than 5000 square meters. The ancient charm still exists, and the style of carved beams and painted buildings can be seen.

The origin of history

The owner of the old house pays great attention to landscaping. In those years, there were many famous flowers and trees in the patio and back garden, and two ancient trees are still preserved: camellia and Ziziphus jujuba. The camellia tree is the same age as the old house. It was brought back from other places by Fu mingpeng, a student of the Imperial College during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. It was planted in the courtyard of his mansion "Dunhou hall". In 2006, when a villager Fu was building a house next to the camellia tree, he couldn't bear to cut down the camellia tree, so he left a big hole in the floor of the second floor to let it grow. Today, the ancient camellia tree is 4.5 meters high, 20 cm in diameter at breast height, and the color of camellia is gorgeous. The diameter at breast height of Zizyphus jujuba is about 1.5 meters. The main pole is burned by lightning, and one third of it remains. It is still luxuriant in spring and summer. From February to March every year, nearly a thousand camellias bloom in full bloom. Camellia is bright red, with a diameter of 7-9 cm, and each flower has at least five to ten stamens. Such a camellia with "one flower with many stamens" is rare.
