WOFO Temple

It was built in the Zhenguan period of Tang Dynasty. Because of its unique mountains, beautiful rocks and abundant springs, it has become a good place for people to go for outings as early as the yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Yuan Zhongdao and Yu Yizheng in Ming Dynasty, Zhu YIZUN, song Luo, Zheng Banqiao and other famous writers in Qing Dynasty all left their ode poems here.

Wofo temple has always had the characteristics of a royal temple: the abbot of the temple was appointed by the emperor, and the internal money (Treasury bank) was paid for the repair of the temple. During the reign of emperor Yingzong of the Yuan Dynasty (1321), the bronze Reclining Buddha weighing about 54 tons was cast in the temple

From then on to the completion of the overhaul in the 13th year of Yongzheng reign, the Wofo temple has become a wonder in the history of religion and architecture due to the coexistence of two reclining Buddhas in the history of more than 400 years.

In the Yongzheng and Qianlong dynasties, the West Road of the temple was opened up as a palace. At that time, Qingya, the abbot of the temple, was an eminent monk. Emperor Yongzheng once bestowed him with "purple clothes". After Qianlong succeeded to the throne, he invited Qingya back from Tiantong temple in the South and ordered him to preside over the Dharma seat of the reclining Buddha temple until his death. The correct name of Wofo temple is Shifang pujue temple, which was given by Emperor Yongzheng. In front of the third Buddha Hall in the temple, the eastern and Western imperial steles record the grand occasion of the temple.

In the northwest of Wofo temple, it is a natural valley. The valley is quiet, the peak is strange, the spring is murmuring, the stone is towering, the flowers and trees are verdant, it was the most prosperous in Ming Dynasty. At that time, there were many temples and incense in the valley. With the change of Ming and Qing Dynasties and the war, the incense gradually declined, the monks scattered temples declined, and the relics spread all over the jungle. At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, sun Chengze, who was an official to the left servant of the Ministry of officials, retired here in his later years. He built a villa named "shuiliuyunzai", a book house named "Shihui book nest", and a pavilion called "tuigu Pavilion", so Cherry Valley is also called tuigu.

Water source, yuanbaoshi, shishangsong, Guangquan abandoned temple, Wuhua temple and Cherry Valley have given Cao Xueqin, the greatest writer in China in the 18th century, rich inspiration.
