Kaixuan Road elevator

Kaixuan Road elevator is a lift elevator connecting Chuqi entrance and Jiaochang entrance. There is a long and narrow steep slope between Kaixuan Road and Xinhua Road, with a gradient difference of 35m and nearly 200 stone ladders. After the completion of the elevator, it facilitates the flow of people between the upper and lower half of the city. Taking the elevator as a means of passenger transport is the first creation in Chongqing, which is also unique in the country. Kaixuan Road elevator, located at No.11 Liansheng lane, Yuzhong District, is the first time to use indoor elevator in urban public transportation in China. The project started in January 1985 and was completed and put into operation in February 1986. The total investment of the elevator is 1.78 million yuan, covering an area of 452 square meters and a total construction area of 3126 square meters. Construction history

In Yuzhong District, the "mother city" of Chongqing, there is a geographical division of "upper half city" and "lower half city" due to the altitude difference of more than 50 meters. In 1985, the Kaixuan Road elevator connecting Kaixuan Road in the lower half of the city and Xinhua Road in the upper half of the city began to be built. On March 30, 1986, the Kaixuan Road elevator with 11 floors and 21 passengers was built and put into use, with an elevation of 32.5 meters.

Kaixuan Road elevator is one of the oldest elevators in Chongqing and the first urban passenger elevator in China. In 1990, in Zhengda variety show, the most popular column of CCTV at that time, "what's the use of this building?" was also a puzzle, which baffled the well-informed guests and made Kaixuan Road elevator a "resort" for foreign guests to visit after Chongqing. Soon, the portrait of Kaixuan Road elevator appeared on the matchbox made in Chongqing, becoming a landmark of the city.
