Baoding Zoo
Baoding zoo, formerly known as "people's Park", is located in Nanguan, the old city of Baoding, which is used to be called "Nanguan Park".
The zoo is adjacent to Yonghua South Road in the East, ancient city wall in the north and Fu River in the West and south, covering an area of 13 hectares. The annual number of tourists exceeds one million.
Historical evolution
Baoding zoo was founded in 1921 by Cao Kun, who was then the governor of Zhili, so it is known as "Cao Kun garden". It covers an area of more than 600 mu. After the war, it was almost in ruins.
After liberation, with the care and support of Baoding Municipal government, the park was rebuilt and officially opened on June 24, 1952, named "Baoding people's Park". More than ten kinds of wild animals were raised and exhibited, and then gradually developed into a comprehensive park focusing on raising, breeding, exhibition and protection of wild animals.
In the 1980s, Baoding people's park developed rapidly. From 1996 to 1999, Baoding Municipal government allocated more than 8 million yuan for three consecutive years to transform the park. New giraffe hall and animal hospital have been built, elephant hall, bird hall, orangutan hall, rare animal hall and deer garden have been rebuilt, and a number of rare animals such as giraffe, African elephant and chimpanzee have been introduced.
In 1995, it was officially renamed "Baoding zoo" with the approval of the higher authorities.
Main animals
Baoding zoo exhibits nearly 140 kinds of animals with more than 1000 heads, 20 varieties of goldfish with more than 2000 tails. Among them, there are 29 species and more than 90 animals listed in Appendix 1 of cites.
The main rare animals are: African elephant, chimpanzee, bear monkey, black capuchin, black leaf monkey, green baboon, red panda, zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, spinodactyl, rock sheep, puma, white tiger, Siberian tiger, spotted hyena, alligator, golden python, etc.
Alpacas are also newly introduced in the park, which are very popular among the public.
Main attractions
Baoding zoo has beautiful scenery and pleasant scenery. There are hundreds of years old trees and many kinds of trees and shrubs, with flowers in all seasons.
The park also retains the ancient city wall of Ming Dynasty, ancient architecture "unique cave" and Taihu stone rockery in North China.
In addition, there are two Ming Dynasty stone lions in the courtyard. According to the records of garden records, the two stone lions are 1.9 meters high, dignified and powerful in shape, well proportioned and well-balanced in overall proportion, and exquisite in carving. In 1959, it was excavated from Cixi palace of Baoding No.2 Middle School and moved to Dongfeng Park Square. In 2007, Dongfeng Park was renovated and opened to the outside world, so it has been placed in Baoding zoo for protection and viewing.

With the active efforts of all staff, Baoding zoo has become one of the zoological parks with more animal species and quantity in North China, ranking among the top 20 City Zoos in China in 2005.

In the aspect of animal reproduction, we have accumulated a lot of experience and made some achievements. For example, an EMU raised in the park lays more than 40 eggs a year, each weighing about 750 grams. Bear breeding technology through the "dark hole delivery room" transformation, so that bear breeding year after year. Nearly 30 Amur tigers, African lions and leopards have been bred, among which 2 African lions and 5 leopards have been bred artificially. In the 1990s, animal breeding reached a climax. Since 1992, African lions have given birth to 13 cubs for seven consecutive years. In addition, more than 10 species and 40 animals are bred every year.
Baoding zoo started the breeding and scientific research of Captive Black Stork in 2000, and successfully paired four pairs of black storks in July 2012. In 2007, two black storks (male stork is sub adult, female stork is young) were rescued from the field. Under the careful feeding of the keepers, they grew very strong. In 2008, the pair of storks matured and began to pair artificially. After laying five eggs in March 2012, all of them hatched naturally. Thanks to the breakthrough of scientific research on breeding and breeding, more than 40 black storks have been raised in Baoding zoo, which has become the largest population under ex situ conservation in China.

Ticket information
1. Adult ticket: 15 yuan / person in peak season (April 1-October 31)
Off season 10 yuan / person (November 1-March 31)
2. Children under 1.2 meters are free of charge;
3. Soldiers in active service, the disabled and the elderly over 60 years old can enter the park free of charge with valid certificates;
4. Baoding zoo does not sell student tickets or children's tickets. There is no discount for students with their student cards;
5. Group tickets are available for more than 20 people, with 20% discount on the price of the current season.
