Xishi is produced in dachengling Township, Jiangshan City, Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province and Yanshan mountain, Qingshi Township, Changshan County.
The stone is calcareous mudstone and occurs in huangnigang formation of Upper Ordovician. The stone is firm and delicate, smooth and firm. It is blue when immersed in water for many years, and purple when immersed in rocks. Among them, purple is the best. According to their different colors and textures, the West stone can be divided into dozens of kinds, such as purple stone, purple gold stone, Venus, jade belt, blue and white, etc. there are also extremely precious purple robe jade belt stone with a white tendon running through the purple stone, and the stone eye with black and white halo in the stone, and a small piece of green rare stones close to the stone eye. Xishi has a history of more than 1000 years, because Quzhou was called Xi'an in ancient times, and there is a Qingliu named Xixi in front of Yanshan, so it is named.
The inkstone made of Xishi is called "Xishi inkstone" or "Xishi inkstone". The stone is moist, wheezable, and water stored in it. It will not dry up for a long time, and it is easy to produce ink without damaging Bo. The Wanli period of Ming Dynasty was the heyday of Xiyan production.
