World Architecture Expo
Located in Gulangyu scenic spot, Xiamen City, Fujian Province, the World Architecture Expo is an excellent landscape for cultural exchanges between China and the West.
First of all, traditional Chinese architecture, such as religious architecture, garden architecture and residential architecture, can be found on Gulangyu Island. In recent years, the World Architecture Expo has successively completed: the original Gulangyu park has been transformed into the underwater world; the Haoyue garden with Zheng Chenggong's tall statue and relief; the Yuyuan Garden with the marble statue of Lin Qiaozhi, a famous Chinese gynecologist; the Huiqiao subtropical plant introduction garden with shrubs, flowers, palms and Chinese fruits; the Xiamen museum with a thousand year history of Xiamen and a general picture of the construction of the special zone; and the celebration of heroes Zheng Chenggong memorial hall, Yanping Park, gangzai swimming pool, Zhongshan Library, people's Stadium, Gulangyu villa, guanhaiyuan resort, Gulangyu Hotel, etc. in 1.78 square kilometers, there are so many parks and libraries, and their density is probably rare in the world.
After the signing of the Treaty of Nanjing in the Opium War, Xiamen became one of the "five ports of Commerce". Western powers flocked to Gulangyu to seize the most beautiful place to build villas. In the 1920s and 1930s, many overseas Chinese returned home to start their own businesses and built many villas and residences in Gulangyu. In just 15 years, more than 1000 villas were built. Small and exquisite, these villas are scattered among the green trees on the hillside and seaside. They are very quiet and unique. They constitute a beautiful scenery of Gulangyu and a valuable asset of Gulangyu. There are thousands of Chinese and foreign buildings of different styles on Gulangyu Island. There are traditional Chinese temples with cornices and corners, courtyard bungalows with Minnan style, Bagua building with Chinese and Western walls, small and exquisite Japanese houses, European style consulates of the former western countries in the 19th century, and Shuzhuang garden, which can be called the classic garden of Jiangnan.

Bagua building
Bagualou (Xiamen Museum) was built in 1907, with a total construction area of 3710 square meters. It has eight edges and is placed on an octagonal platform. The top windows are 24-way in all directions. Therefore, it is called "bagualou". It is a representative of modern architecture in Xiamen.
The original owner of Bagua building is Lin Heshou, the third room of Lin family in Banqiao, Taiwan. It was designed by John Yu, a Dutch American, former president of Gulangyu salvation hospital. Based on the classical architectural styles of balustam, Greece, Italy and China, Yu designed this unique antique building integrating Eastern and Western architectural culture.
The red dome is a direct imitation of the world's oldest Islamic architecture, the stone dome of the Al Aqsa Mosque in Palestine; 82 large columns are the large stone columns of the ancient Greek female Temple of Hera built in the 5th century A.D.; the stone beams and lines between the columns can be seen from the temple of heftis in Athens square in Greece; the cross shaped passage originated from Greece and later used in the Roman Church; the ancient Greek The taolik style and Ionic style column head decoration and the qingdou Stone Vase under the layering fully show the classical beauty of the combination of Chinese and western. Bagua building is a landmark building in Xiamen. It is now Xiamen Museum.
Huangjia garden middle building
Huangjiahuayuan Zhonglou (No.25, Huangyan Road)
After the completion of the North-South building of Huangjia garden in 1921, Huang Yizhu decided to build a high-grade villa that exceeded all the villas in Gulangyu. He demolished the old red brick building and invited Chinese and foreign engineers to design it carefully. The central building pays attention to the European style and the materials are exquisite. The exquisite carved Bogu frame, the bronze Carving Fireplace and the well-known craftsman's porch columns in the central building show the classical beauty of the combination of Chinese and Western styles everywhere. It not only has the architectural style of Western Europe in the Renaissance, but also has the gorgeous decoration of German noble families in the 18th century. Haitiantang gouzhong building

Huang Xiuzhen, an overseas Chinese living in the Philippines in Jinjiang, built a group of five European style villas on Fujian road with his fellow villager Huang nianyi in the 1920s. There are four characters on the front door of the building group: "Haitian hall structure". The five villas adopt the traditional symmetrical pattern of Chinese architecture, with the middle building as the main part and spread out to both sides. A square is built in the center to form a group of large-scale buildings.
The middle building is an antique palace building with a large roof. It uses double eaves to rest on the top of the mountain. Its four corners are high and tilted. The lintels of doors, windows, corridors and halls are hung with concrete openwork hanging flying hoods. The eaves and corners are decorated with twig flowers or water absorbing dragon, beam carrying sparrow and plastic Dragon Phoenix ornaments. In particular, two caissons are decorated under the roof, and Chinese flower and bird paintings are painted on the walls of the caissons, which are quite like pavilions. The corridor is decorated with brackets and flower baskets, which makes the middle building very National. From a distance, this building is quite imposing and stable.
Huang rongyuantang Villa

Built in 1920, it is a large villa with European style. There are many large and small pillars in the whole villa, which are carved with the whole granite. It is full of ancient Roman charm. The courtyard is full of bamboo and forest, elegant and quiet. This villa is a harmonious combination of western, Chinese, classical and modern styles. It is the best of Gulangyu villas.
HSBC Mansion
HSBC mansion (57 Guxin Road)
In 1876, HSBC built a 400 square meter English style villa on the cliff top of Bijia mountain. The foundation pile is driven into the rock, which is very firm. The structure of the residence is T-shaped, with three corridors and multiple obtuse angles. The owner can enjoy the wide-angle view of mountains and seas by pushing the window. At night, he can have a panoramic view of "fishing and fire". Walking in the corridor, the view of XiaGu embraces. Standing at the top of the cliff railing, looking around, the sky, the sea, the eagles, the gulls and the egrets rush together, with the spirit of being proud of the sea and the sky!
Octagonal building
Bajiaolou (15 Lujiao Road)
Octagonal building in Lin's mansion, built in 1915, is a French building with southern European style and Balok charm. Lin Weiyuan, the Minister of Taiwan's land reclamation, took his family to settle in Gulangyu. He first bought an Englishman's villa, which he called "building", and then built a "small building" (which was burned down due to fire). In 1915, Lin Shuzhuang built a villa between the big and small buildings, called "octagonal building", and added a corridor to connect the three buildings together, commonly known as "Lin's house" or "Fu Nei". The octagonal building has five floors. It is a tower building with many octagonal facades, so it is named. The main entrance is decorated with square columns and double revolving steps. The lintels of the door and window are made of rosettes and flying pigeons, which are quite Baroque.
Yin House
Yinzhai (126 Quanzhou Road)
It was built in 1925 and designed by Yin Zuze, the eldest son of the owner. It is of French charm in Western Europe. It is characterized by local materials, granite strips and stone walls mined from the base, which are rough and unconstrained. It not only has the personality of Minnan Stone Town, but also has the feeling of returning to simplicity in the Renaissance. The inner hall has five arches, three connected halls and four bedrooms. There are four sets of sanitary equipment in the whole building, which shows the civilization consciousness of the designer. The black pine in the courtyard, the same age as the villa, is still vigorous and straight.
Li Qingquan Villa
Li Qingquan villa (7 Qishan Road)
Li Qingquan, a native of Jinjiang, is an overseas Chinese in the Philippines. In 1926, he built a three story villa at the foot of the flag raising mountain, with a large Roman column on the front, solemn and steady. The courtyard of the villa is paved with polychromatic granite pebbles to form a path, forming a colorful pattern, which makes the villa more beautiful. The garden is planted with rare Araucaria and flowers. The European style fountain in the center and rockery Pavilion make the villa more natural and warm. He also has two villas on Zhangzhou Road, in which the nanmu floor and furniture are still impressive.
Jingualou
Jingualou (No.99 Quanzhou Road)
Because there are two "golden melons" on the top of the building. The golden melon tower was built in 1922 and bought as a residence by Huang Zimin, an overseas Chinese in the Philippines in 1924. The building is a villa decorated with traditional Chinese decoration techniques. All the beams, lintels and board corners are decorated with flowers, birds and plants. It has both local flavor and Rococo charm. The windows are of European style and are all equipped with shutters. The internal hall layout is a combination of Chinese and western, including Chinese style wing room and public hall, European style fireplace and wide corridor. This way of using Chinese traditional crafts to decorate foreign buildings reflects the local complex of Huaqiao, which is also the unique style of Jingua building.
Guancai building

At the top of the Bijia mountain, there is a European style villa with unique style. Because it is shaped like a sedan chair, it is called "bridal sedan chair". And because you can enjoy the beautiful sunset and rosy clouds upstairs, it is also called "guancailou".
