Sishan Bridge
Sishan bridge is located outside the north gate of Zhangye City. It was built by the governor of Suning River in the early Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty.
Architectural features
Sishan bridge is a stone arch bridge on the moat (also known as the moat), with a base of bluestone and a archway on it. It is very spectacular. The bridge has stone carvings with dragon and tiger fighting each other, lion rolling embroidered ball, plum, orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo patterns. These reliefs are well proportioned, with extensive knife work, vigorous lines, exquisite carvings and vivid images. It is a unique stone wood structure bridge in Zhangye. On the archway, there are three strong and natural big character plaques of "four good bridges" and couplets of "the moon is picturesque at the end of the bridge; the sound of water is heard at the Bank of the field". Every summer, visitors cross the bridge to have a rest and enjoy the rural scenery. Because of the need of urban construction, it is now rebuilt into a cement bridge.
