Lujiang road is a main road of Xiamen road. Lujiang road was a water area in ancient times, and its northwest was the intersection of Lujiang River and yuandanggang river. It is one of the main roads in the periphery of Xiamen city. One end of the road can lead to Xiamen port, the other end can lead to Xiamen Dongdu Xingang, and the middle is also connected with other main roads, such as Kaiyuan Road, Xiahe Road, Zhongshan Road, etc.
Lujiang Road
Lujiang road is a main road of Xiamen road. Lujiang road was a water area in ancient times, and its northwest was the intersection of Lujiang River and yuandanggang river. It is one of the main roads in the periphery of Xiamen city. One end of the road can lead to Xiamen port, the other end can lead to Xiamen Dongdu Xingang, and the middle is also connected with other main roads, such as Kaiyuan Road, Xiahe Road, Zhongshan Road, etc.
The origin of history
Lujiang road was built in 1929-1932, with a total length of 1563 meters and a width of 13.4 meters. Lujiang road is a main road of Xiamen road. Lujiang road was a water area in ancient times, and its northwest part (now from fuyujiao to Xiamen sixth middle school) is the intersection of Lujiang River and yuandanggang river. When Zheng Chenggong occupied Xiamen at the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, this was the water area where he practiced his Navy. The southeastern part (now Siming South Road) is commonly known as "shuishuizhu" and "houlutou" in the old times because the Lujiang River stops here as soon as it reaches the river, and there is a ferry for berthing.
After three periods and three sections of engineering, Lujiang road was built in the water area.
In 1926, Xiamen naval command set up a levee construction office, and hired Zhou Xingnan, who was then a member of Xiamen municipal supervision office as a consultant, to design and fill Lujiang road embankment.
In 1928, Lujiang road completed the first section of embankment, and the road surface was the old road head, zhushujiao, Dianbao Road head, datiaotou, Desheng Road head, cijie Road head, Shixiang Road head, gangzikou Road head, Daomei Road head, etc. Then, the filling of the second, third and fourth sections of embankment is carried out simultaneously. The second section of Lujiang road embankment (from the post office wharf to the Mazu palace wharf) is located in the downtown area. The price of the completed land is as high as 3000 yuan per square meter, and only one design drawing is available for pre-sale, which leads to a scramble for purchase. The reason is that the economic crisis happened in Nanyang at that time, and overseas Chinese remitted money to Xiamen one after another to buy land and build shops and houses as a way to return home. Due to the pre-sale of land, the cost of the filling project is available, and the progress is fast, and it was completed in less than a year. However, in a tsunami, all the levees collapsed. The reason for the collapse, according to the Engineer in charge of the construction, is that the Chinese pine pile, which is the foundation of the dike, was corroded. Therefore, it was replaced by American loose pile, rebuilt and restored in 1930. However, it soon collapsed. But the truth is not clear.
Because of the unknown situation, it is difficult to rebuild. Moreover, the cost of the first and second filling has been more than 700000 yuan, and it can not afford any more losses. As a result, foreign contractors were recruited. In 1931, Dutch Zhigang company contracted the project and completed it in 1932. Therefore, Lujiang Road, the second section of embankment, is still standing today because of the company's design. In addition to using reinforced concrete for foundation piles, reinforced concrete piles are densely planted in the filling section inside the embankment, and reinforced concrete slabs are also covered to connect the embankment foundation and consolidate the embankment. When filling the third section of Lujiang road embankment pavement, Xiamen new area has more land, the land is no longer tense, no one is competing for it, and the source of embankment engineering cost is exhausted. Therefore, the second, third and fourth sections of Lujiang road could not be completed until after liberation.
Planning and transformation
Since 1996, Xiamen has re planned and reconstructed Lujiang Road, retaining three wharves, namely Heping wharf, XiaGu ferry wharf and inland river passenger terminal; expanded the embankment, widened the road to 44 meters, built a viewing platform and sea corridor, expanded the seaside park, built an underground passage, and formed a public transport hub. You can see classical buildings such as Xiamen first class post office and Lujiang Hotel, as well as modern buildings such as international bank building, customs building and Construction Bank building.
In Xiamen International Marathon, marathon and half marathon pass through Lujiang road.
