Park Culture
DongBianMen Chongwenmen Ming city wall site is one of the only two Ming city walls in Beijing. It is an important symbol of the historical development of Beijing city. Its southeast turret is a key cultural relic protection unit in China. The rest of the city wall sites are also cultural relic protection units in Beijing. This section of the city wall was built in the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty and was repaired in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Due to historical reasons, most of the land in the protected area is occupied by units and residents. The ruins of the city wall are in disrepair for a long time and seriously damaged. The buried pressure of pipelines endangers the life and property safety of residents, damages the appearance of the city and affects the image of the capital.
In order to protect the style of Beijing's ancient capital and improve the living conditions of local residents, the municipal government decided to repair the city wall, comprehensively renovate the surrounding environment of the city wall ruins, build the Ming City Wall Ruins Park, and properly solve the housing problems of local residents. The retirement project of Beijing Ming City Wall Ruins Park is one of the 60 practical things that Beijing municipal government planned to do for the masses in 2002, and it is also the first of the four major projects in our district. In September 2003, the first phase of Beijing Ming City Wall Ruins Park was completed. Jiang Zemin, Li Lanqing, Wan Li and Ding Guangen, as well as Jia Qinglin, then Secretary of the municipal Party committee, and Liu Qi, mayor of the city, visited the Ming City Wall Ruins Park.
historical significance
The newly built Ming Dynasty city wall site in Beijing aims to protect the city wall and show the true appearance of the ancient city wall, providing a quiet, natural, simple and desolate environment for the citizens. The north side of the city wall will form a closed green belt, while the alignment of the garden road and the arrangement of plants on the south side of the city wall will strive to be simple and generous. The protection work of the city wall ruins mainly focuses on the current situation protection and risk elimination and reinforcement, supplemented by a small amount of compensation, so as to preserve the original state of the city wall to the greatest extent. Standing under the city wall, the dignified sense of history and the sense of vicissitudes arise spontaneously.
In addition, the Ming City Wall Heritage Park is also one of the main places for holding large-scale mass cultural activities in Chongwen District. From September 29 to October 4, 2003, the Ming City Wall Heritage Park held the first Beijing Ming City Wall culture and Sports Festival and investment and trade fair with the theme of "ancient wall charm, vitality and Chongwen".
In 2003, Beijing Ming City Wall Ruins Park was rated as Beijing boutique park.
